Am very new to ebay, would like to know the followings:

1) Inorder to list an item, isn’t COMPULSORY to key in the credit card no.?

2) If we do not use any themes or any additional options, we WILL NOT be charge?

3) Can we choose to only sell locally? Transfer via internet banking or COD only?

4) If sell international, do we have to pay a fee?

5) Does paypal link to our local DBS/POSB?

If the amount is small - tens of dollars, why cannot pay as soon. Otherwise, what if another ebayer clicks to buy your item, then how to explain to the latter? And if first buyer changes his mind a few days later, how?

But if the amount is quite big, ask the buyer to put a deposit of a reasonable amount (non-refundable) and by when to pay up the balance. If the buyer paid the deposit, at least there is a certain amount of commitment. Then asked the buyer to click ' buy'. In this way, the auction is closed. And then you wait for him to keep to his commitment. If he failed to pay the balance, deposit will be forfeited and the item relists.

Sounds like you need to verify your paypal account. To verify paypal account in Singapore, you can either:
1) link and confirm your credit card with PayPal; OR
2) link and confirm your bank account with PayPal through the eBay listing process

Did you indicate COD or internet transfer as your mode of payment? When someone win the bid, an invoice will be sent to your Ebay account. Just click the INVOICE box and just click to send the invoice as it is Ebay procedure. Just make sure the buyer has paid by internet transfer beofore you deliver. If COD, then one hand takes money, the other hand gives item lor. When all done, click payment received and give your feedback. :celebrate:

You will b charged a listing fee if u list your item internationally, this will b charge irregardless if it gets sold or not. If someone bought your item, you will b charged a final value fee.
At the moment, Ebay allows one to list his/her items a certain nos. of times with free insert fee so there will not be any charges.

You can transfer your paypal money to local bank. The money will b converted to SGD. The exchange rate is bad though. So when u do list items internationally, do factor in the exchange rate.

1. Yes, needed as it presumes that there might be times when you might use some listings that need to pay fees. Anyway, I believe it is pretty secure.

2. No listing charge if you do not use certain features that incur fees.

3. If you log on ebay.com.sg, you will be restricted to sell locally. When you log on ebay.com, then you will be selling internationally.

If selling locally, can just make payment mode by transfer thru' ATM, internet or COD. But for internationally, paypal is usually the main mode of payment as Ebay and Paypal are inter-connected. Most buyers n sellers also prefer payment by Paypal.

4. At the moment, selling locally, no charge. But selling internationally, you will be charged a fee if you manage to sell your item.

5. Paypal can be linked to only credit card n debit card.

Everything okay. Able to list my items and closed several deals too but slow…much slower that previous yahoo auctions.


1) Yes you must. Same as the defunct yahoo auctions.
2) When you list, you will see a running total of how much you incurred. If you do basic stuff, no charges…only if you want more frills,there will be charges. First 3 photos free, thereafter charageable. Look at your running total, if $0 means you won’t be charged anything.
3) Yes. use ebay.com.sg. Yes that’s what I did - IB.
4) don’t know…never tried.
5) I use paypal for buying things(not selling). It is linked to your credit card account. Not sure if can link to local DBS/POSB. The advantage of using paypal versus credit card is that the credit card number and personal details are hidden from the selling merchant, the disadvantage is paypal exchange rates are not as good (that’s how paypal earns and survives).
