Trying to find a window where everyone is free at the same time is a real headache! In the end, I am the one who has to miss something, but at least we managed to find a time. I was beginning to say that we should just look for a nearby 3-day vacation instead!

Some questions - should we change currency before going? Or wait till we get there? I expect credit cards are not widely accepted except in hotels? What does a meal cost in Cambodia? It would be helpful if someone could give me a rough idea (basic or fast food, not fancy dining!). My tour provides meals except for the days of arrival and departure, so we only need to get 1 dinner and 1 lunch. Anything interesting to buy? It’s just before Christmas, so is there interesting stuff I could get as presents? Thanks!

There are also cultural performances, temples, elephant parks, and there is trekking and biking for the more adventurous. There are half or full-day tours for these things which you can book easily. You can also get tours to explore further north right up to the Golden triangle area. There's a lot of food, and you can sign up for cooking classes too. And massages are fairly cheap. There are the night and day markets for handcrafts, souvenirs etc. When my kids were small, they found driving around the moat very fun (it's just a big canal) and climbing on what's left of the old city wall.

We went to CM quite a few times over the years for meetings, and there are other things we enjoyed which probably won't appeal to your family as you are coming from Singapore (we were living in China then) - 2nd hand bookstores which sell English books, western food, sushi, Boots, Central and Carrefour!

Chiangmai has become one of the favourite destination for mainland chinese. For my family, we like to hibernate at home & watch videos & have meals together or exercise together.

sparks

Reply to Where to bring my 2 teens? on Tue, 15 Jul 2014 11:53:42 GMT

sparks:
simkhoo, can you pls share what you find interesting abt Chiangmai. I've considered Chiangmai.

The most interesting things (to me) are the handcraft workshops - silk weaving, umbrellas and other stuff like that.

We went to CM quite a few times over the years for meetings, and there are other things we enjoyed which probably won't appeal to your family as you are coming from Singapore (we were living in China then) - 2nd hand bookstores which sell English books, western food, sushi, Boots, Central and Carrefour!

sharonkhoo

Reply to Where to bring my 2 teens? on Tue, 15 Jul 2014 11:43:40 GMT

ScaredyMum:
So actually my 'headache' is always where to go in SG on weekends or PH. Sometimes we invite friends over to hang out, but that's rare as everyone is so busy all the time.

sharonkhoo
