<![CDATA[Pen Pal for 6 year old?]]>Does it sound common to have penpal for my 6 year old?


DS1 is now into aggressive stamp-collecting and he writes pretty well. So I wonder if I should introduce to him a penpal?

Where can I find suitable penpals for him?

Last week, he stayed at home the entire week as I signed him up for some drawing lessons for the holiday season. He was thrilled by the stamps on our letters and started cutting the stamps out.

So when we reached home, the envelopes had 'stamp holes' in them. 😢

Yes i guess so, cos i think to kids, it is something novelty.
Ds1 doesn't like any form of excessive writing, so pen-paling may not work for him. He usually prefers the occasional seasonal cards cos it involves more drawing than writing.
He had just delivered his hand-made christmas card to our opposite neighbour. It all started last year when he wrote some Christmas messages and slotted it underneath the door slot of all the neighbours on our floor. A couple came back with a small christmas gift for him. So this year, he only made christmas card for them :!: :lol:

DD1 has some experience writing letters to \"penpals\". She wrote a couple to her childcare centre mate, even though they (at that time) met almost every day.

I think these kids don't consider the physical contact a factor. It's just fun to send and receive letters. DD1 grumbled a lot that schellen and I receive so many \"letters\" in the past - and I had to constantly remind her that they are UNWANTED letters, i.e. BILLS. :stupid: 😐 😛


Regarding the sealed mailboxes... easy wad.... just pop in the letter by the front entrance. I.e. you plant the letter yourself in the mailbox, then just bring 'em along when you check mail and feign surprise lor... :lol:

winth, I agree with the real letter with real stamps bit. My girl's having a party soon and she's so old fashioned - wanting to send an hardcopy invite to her friends etc (actually she keeps all her paper invites 😉 so go figure! 😛 ) It needs an element of surprise i.e., you don't know who it is...but are we artificially providing a \"safer\" environment for them?

But actually, I think your DS has been seeing schellen's DD ermm... everyday? So it kinda makes it no difference to write a letter. The surprise element is out, but if he were to write to someone totally new, it might be a different story.

Last time we paid $2/penpal. Can choose the biodata (age, country, language, etc).

Quite fun and great to practise writing plus get to collect stamps 🙂

I'm not sure where to get that now though.

Get him to write letters to this imaginary guy, u can make up all the biodetails LOL...send it to the mailbox of a trusted friend....then u collect the letters and write back to him.

But all the while u have to keep it dead secret....if he finds out, it might hurt him 😞 isn't it nice to have an opportunity to be your child's friend, not the same time as being his parent, just being his friend? 😉
