You would have to check with the schools when their DSA exercises are.

The reality about SCGS and MGS Dance DSA - they take at the MOST 2 to 3 girls via DSA if your child is not from their Primary school. Aside from your child's talent, their standards are very high : pass RAD GD 5 with Distinction, have competition experience (eg CSTDs every July), any other dance (CSTD TAP/Jazz) and a supporting written resume from the dance teacher. Students would have to perform a short choreographed dance and the those who have the help from their dance teachers would obviously stand out by being more polished.

These students usually would have already auditioned for SOTA's Talent Academy in March or June.

Both SCGS and MGS send their dance teams for competitions, so a student entering under DSA with competition experience in their resumes have an advantage. Generally these two school know which dance teachers in Spore are capable of grooming kids to performance standards, which means the dance teacher your child has been training under does matter. The competition for these few places is very stiff, the dancers selected are very good, those shortlisted are given a *provisional* acceptance. Once the PSLE results are out, the student must attain the aggregate for Express Stream before her place is confirmed. SCGS and MGS have fully Express Stream Secondary schools, no Normal Academic Streams.

The conclusion is : unless your child is overwhelmingly talented in dance, a good academic result is still necessary for DSA under Dance.

Once the student is accepted under DSA Dance, for the whole of the secondary years, they will not be allowed to change the CCA. You really have to make sure your child understands this and commits to the CCA.

This has more or less been the procedure for DSA Dance the past few years and hopefully this post would give parents in this forum a clearer idea of what to expect. My post is based on experience in the dance community and having put two girls through Sec 1 school placements.

dance and theatre

Reply to DSA - Ballet on Thu, 21 Jan 2010 01:49:18 GMT

verykiasu2010:

Augmum:
hi daisyt

oh yes, nowadays, the kids CCA is not for recreation, some even \"being forced to \" (like to UG)
unlike our old times, we could join whatever we have passion in and we were allowed to change CCA throughout the 4 yrs in sec sch.....so nice......

last time was not CCA, it was ECA, no points, literally.
