Wondering if anyone’s bubs with Small Wonder now? They opened a branch in Tampines. I went there for a visit and I find the principal there is very nice but the teachers look inexperienced and they are probably the type that coax kids a lot. Plan to put my 19mo (will be 22mo when she starts school). Any more updated reviews on this school? Can’t find it on any other websites. And from the previous comments, it seems like this is a very bad school.

The experience was horrible. I went in to observe for few days and found many unhygienic practises. The China teachers simply passed the toys from one child to another, letting the infants crawl outside the mat and suck on the floors!! The floor was quite dirty and teachers were walking with slippers. I also saw some teachers very rough in handling the children. Crawlers and walkers who do not want to eat on high chairs be scolded and threatened. The teachers be shoving porridge in the mouths of lined up kids like factory one after another. I saw kids perpetually crying. Those who cannot walk or crawl were most poor thing. I saw one baby girl just placed on a pillow lying there staring at ceiling for hours. After I came back from lunch the baby was still lying there staring at ceiling alone. When I saw the father at pick up time i wanted to tell the dad if he knows his child has been left alone there for hours just sucking on her pacifer. I also saw babies sleeping all alone in the cots in the room by themselves with no teacher supervision which is totally dangerous. I asked the teacher why no supervision. She said we can hear from outside if baby wakes up. What rubbish!!! When so many babies were crying and brawling outside. Probably If baby died inside no one will know. By the way the centre has just been issued by moh for mass hfmd. Put your child there at your own risk !!

This is very unfortunate. Yes there were 2 HMFD cases in mid and end Dec, which really calls into question the management's protocol. Schools like Pat's Schoolhouse will engage a vendor for school wide disinfecting and send parents the certificate. Their conduct was very professional and the fact that they reached out to parents instead of waiting for parents to check on what the school has in place to deal with the outbreak is highly commendable.

In general, yes I agree that the centre lacks service, as well as commitment. When you raise issues with them, they get very defensive and can give you extremely \"far-out\" justifications as to why it cannot be done or why it wasn't done. They just keep telling you that in Learning Vision they do it this way or that way and use that precedence as the basis for their argument, even if they are archaic, flawed or outdated.

klarity00

Reply to Small Wonder Preschool @ Blk 348 Yishun Ave 11 on Tue, 16 Jan 2018 01:58:36 GMT

Branch at Serangoon is so-so.

Positives: Relatively new and clean

Negatives: Like a few of the comments in this thread, the management is rather poor and lacking with little support for parents.

I have been to 5 schools so far, and Small Wonder Serangoon is one of them. I thought I could share what I feel, and hear from current parents.

PROS
1. Tight security - facial recognition, electronic sign-in. The doors and gates are all locked/latched.
2. Small ratio of 1 teacher to 6 students for PG.
3. Little Lives online portal to keep in touch with your child’s progress every 2 weeks.
4. In-house kitchen which serves hot food.
5. Excellent facilities - I was really impressed with the HUGE indoor playground, and tricycle circuit. Toilets are all very clean and well maintained. And did I say school is HUGE? LOL.
6. Affordable fees at $556/ month if working mother.
7. Milk intake and poop records for PG.

CONS
1. Curriculum ends at 4.45pm, so if you pick up your kids at 7pm, they are just whiling away their time.
2. Phonics begins at N2 (which is standard after many comparision, but the brand name schools such as Pats and MMI begins immediately)
3. Cold central aircon. And I mean COLD.
4. Outdoor garden not managed by Small Wonder, and is currently under renovation. So no outdoor play. And no water play or sand play as well due to indoor nature of school.
5. The second teacher per class is not a Chinese teacher (the brand name schools guarantee two teachers - one English speaking and one Chinese speaking. Not one-teacher plus one assistant, but two teachers).
6. Phonics program is not Letter Land, but another brand (just a minor point)

The pros outweigh the cons in terms of number, and in my mind, the pleasant environment is making me give Small Wonder serious consideration. The main worry I have is the curriculum. It is "light" compared with the school’s I’ve visited, and while I know at PG, children should play and develop their gross motor skills, one of the brand-name school I visited had a really SCARY rigorous plan to develop the child from PG to K2. There is a saying in Chinese that "a good start accounts for half your success"… and I really want my twins to have the best start possible. Small Wonders is super affordable at $556, vs the top tier of $1700 plus which is crazy when I have to multiply by two.

Any comments, parents? Thanks.
