There will never be a ballot. Supply and demand - yes - and the top scorer choose their school first and the allocation by moe computer is starting from the guy ranked number one and then downward. Once places in top schools are filled the allocation move to the next school etc until the guy ranked last in the cohort.

There is hardly anyone with the same score as the t score is into at 13 decimal places.

You can choose to play safe.
Some schools look at this, some don't.
Really depend on decision maker - Principal.

At the end of the day, the decision is up to you.
If you put a school with a slightly higher COP as 1st choice: if the COP drops, you would have gambled correctly; if the COP raises, you will be out. You are less likely to succeed in appealing given that the gap between COP and your score would be greater now.

The teachers may be playing it safe, but as long as you are willing to accept your 2nd or 3rd choice (or any of your choices), I don't think there's an issue in taking your approach.

As per anxious.dad comments, it's not ambiguous. Stop over-thinking.

Whether the student with the lower score places the school as his first, second or third choice won't matter. The one with the higher score will always be considered first, even if the school is pencilled in as his last choice.

This is the current posting system, it could be different from your time. In fact, I think you are right that at one time, the order of choice did matter but the system had change. It is precisely because of this system that the current \"elite schools\" developed as their COPs are now clearly ahead of the rest as students/ parents dare to gamble and put their dream schools as the first 2 choices. During the time where order of choice matters, students/ parents are less willing to choose schools that they had no confidence in getting into, hence COPs have a narrower spread among the top schools. However, if you still feel very strongly that choice does matter, then do fill in the form in a way that you are comfortable with. Anyway, it may not be advisable to choose schools with last year COPs that are 5 marks above your dd's tscore as it is widely speculated that this year COPs will increase for the top tier schools though it certainly serves no harm if you are to select these schools.

That's what I read from flowchart too. But I remembered during my own PSLE it wasn't like this. More so the P of my daughter school during briefing also says to not waste the first 2 choices?

Posting Process

Students are posted to secondary schools based on merit. Student with a better rounded aggregate score will be considered for admission first subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected school. If there are no more vacancies, then the student will be considered for his/her next choice school(s).

In situations where there are two or more students with the same rounded aggregate score vying for the last place in a school, they will be posted based on their citizenship status (i.e. Singapore Citizens, then Singapore Permanent Residents, then International Students). If there is still a tie, say between two Singapore citizens, the one with the higher unrounded aggregate score will be posted into the school first. If there is still a tie between two citizens with the same unrounded aggregate score, then posting into the school will be determined by a computerised ballot where each student is given an equal opportunity.

Students who fail to get a place in any of their choice of schools will be posted to a school near their home which still has vacancies. However, they must have met the school’s lowest PSLE aggregate. As such, parents who have changed their official residential address in their NRIC are advised to update the primary school of their new address by the end of PSLE.

My reading of the visual flowchart is that if I am a student ranked 1234, I will be slotted into 1 of my 6 school choices (unless none has space) BEFORE the next student ranked 1235 is passed through his school choices.

Someone pls correct me if you are aware this is not the case.

I heard from a friend that the competition in HCI is very fierce for appeal this year. There are already many students who scored 256 in waiting list. Unless there are exceptional achievements besides academics, it could be very challenging.
