My son starts P1 next week, and being our eldest kid, we don’t really know what to expect.

He has been in a full day childcare for the past few years, so it would be quite a big change for him to be at home in the afternoons next year.

My hubby suggests that we set up a timetable for him, to instill some discipline in him from Day One. Otherwise, we know he will just spend time playing with his toys.

Does anyone out there have tips to share, or perhaps a sample time table that I can adapt?

Many thanks!

Previously, she went to BASC during P1 so she followed the BASC timetable and a simple routine when she gets home in the evening. Now that I’m a SAHM, she comes home after school and follows a timetable we drew up together. She is in a single-session school that ends at 1:30pm daily except Mondays (4pm due to PAL). She has CCA on Fridays that ends at 4pm.

She showers and eats when she gets home regardless of when she gets off. Then, it’s homework, followed by revision for tingxie or spelling (if any). On Tue-Thu, she does assessments for Chinese, English and Maths. Then, she goes off to play, etc until dinnertime. I eat earlier than her due to her late lunch and me having to get her baby sister to bed early. On most nights, she eats alone and waits for DH to get home. Dh will take over from there till her bedtime at 9+.

We simply used her BASC timetable and adapted it to her school timetable and to some extent, DD2’s routines.

It is up to him to rest and relax. I know he would watch TV.....

Meanwhile for P3, there are several days that she need to stay back after school. She usually takes a nap in the afternoon. I told her to try to finish her homework before i come back.

As our evening timetable is \"intense\" no tv, etc... I usually let them do whatever they want in the morning/ noon. I don't want them to be study phobic so must allow them so free time. During exams, it would be more intense but I told them that they can enjoy themselves after that. They know it's true so they need to work hard when it's time to do so.

It's like this. When your kid first entered P1, you would find it stressful. I used to be take it easy to super stressed out mum. My eldest child P1 was an adjustment for me. But with my eldest in P3, I feel that P1 and P2 are really honeymoon period and there is no need to quit your job. Frankly, at this point, I am still feeling stressed but I supposed when my eldest is in P6, what we are going through now is nothing.

Are you the mum who is aiming for MBS??? If so, MBS has little homework for P1 and P2 if the child is able to cope and complete their work in school.

In terms of coaching, my kids have enrichment lessons/ tuition for all subjects. Our role in the evening is to ensure they do their enrichment/ school work and also be there if they've any questions. As we cannot depend on enrichment/ tuition only, we also prepare them for exams eg. giving spelling, revising work, giving them assessment,etc... based on the identification of their problem areas.

MMM

Reply to Home timetable for P1 on Fri, 16 Apr 2010 07:44:48 GMT

DD in P1 now and her schedule goes like this

7.00 - reach home, shower
7.30 - Dinner
8.00 - Practice Piano
8.15 - homework/revision
9.00 - Free
9.45 - bedtime routine (milk, brush teeth, story)
10.15 - lights out
