I believe there are two different cases being discussed here. One, with the 9 year old boy, occurred last year. The other, with the 7 year old autistic boy, occurred this month.

for the 9 year boy, the mother has been sentenced to 10 years jail.

for the 7 year old, I think she is still being assessed if she is fit for trial.

Can guess how financially tight they are…and also emotionally stressed.

The judge want to give a second chance, to live again.
She is now 32.
After serve 10 years jail term, when she come out, she’ll be aged 42.
She can live, one more chance.

Poor thing.
Her life sad.
Since her son was 9 years old, means she was pregnant at 23, unwed mother.
After pregnant, her life revolved carrying her son around everywhere, (bec he can’t walk, she can’t work) until that day she committed the crime.

Sad !
A young woman from aged 23, subjected to a very tough life of destiny of suffering.
Age 23 supposed to be the prime life, of any young lady.
In a way, her own life is tragic

On compassionate ground and to restore hope in the mother’s life, (where hope was once dashed in her life, bleak with a pessimistic hopeless future that led her to breaking point), the older son is her only source of hope now.

Hope the judge has mercy, give her another chance to live, not send her off to the gallow.

Hope society also chip in to help, provide some educational funds for this P6 boy, and livelihood for him & his aged grandparents.

Any kid taking PSLE is stressed enough. Hope there will be councillor to tide him through mentally first. He can go into depression…something like post traumatic stress disorder.

For him to face this type of family tragedy at such a young tender age, is a very, very traumatic experience.
Not only shocking for him, but also leave behind a very deep painful emotional scar, in his childhood.
He is only P6, still very much a child.
Pitiful boy

His grandma so old, also very pitiful.

Reported in the papers that his grandma would bring him down every morning to wait for the school bus.

Not only that, polyclinic doctors will tell parents to go private if they cannot wait or if the case is urgent.

Then there is the traveling/queuing time to factor in. Oh yes, financial.

Therapists will advise parents how to coach/handle their kids’ learning.

Is therapy for child an absolute necessity?

If without therapy, condition will deteriorate?
Therapy is just teaching and training. It's given a special name because it's different in intensity, pace and nature from what normal kids receive at home, in preschool and school, etc. Kids with disabilities also need to be taught life, social and academic skills, just that it usually takes longer and they face more difficulties. And such kids are usually not able to learn just by watching or absorb things 'naturally', like other kids. And yes, I think their condition can degenerate if they are not given appropriate training and encouragement. My husband has an uncle who is probably mildly autistic (never diagnosed). He had difficulties in school and eventually dropped out. He could never stick to any kind of job because of poor social skills and bullying, and for the last 30 yrs or more has basically sat in front of the TV. He is even less communicative now than he was 30+ yrs ago (according to my husband).

Because of the greater demands of looking after and teaching such kids, parents may not be able to cope, especially a single parent who also has to make a living. As a SAHM with a child who is only mildly disabled, and a very supportive husband, there were times I found it really tough-going too. I feel really sorry that this mother got to this stage.

The earlier the child seek help, the better for the child.
Don’t delay

sometimes, kids have melt down, parents also need to be trained how to handle them, when kids have melt down.
parents also need emotional support.

The therapy are often expensive, even if go under subsidized rates at KK children hospital, via a recommendation letter through the polyclinic.
Worse, the queue waiting time at KK, is very long.
Some parents cannot wait, as their child’s condition is serious.
So, they think of private clinic.
But Private clinic charges even more ex, clocked by hourly rate.

Eg :
some private clinics charge $150, per hour, just for one single therapy consultation session.
Special need child definitely need more than 1 therapy session.
The condition stay with the child, entire life.
Hence, the heavy financial costs burden

In contrast, this same amount of $150 charged can be tuition fees per month for 4 lessons, for an NT pupil. (Eg : at Mindstretcher tuition centre)

The educational costs involved in raising a child with special need, far exceed that, of an NT child.

since this is a unique family tragedy and in the midst of his family preparing funeral for his dead brother, P should help this poor boy sit for PSLE, at a later time re-scheduled.
