Some sales jobs pay more, but the times required don’t fit SAHMs - so many shops only open around 11am, and they tend to want you to work evenings and weekends.

If you have some specialised experience, you can ask around. It’s probably better to start with people you know who can tell you if there’s anything available, maybe even recommend you to the bosses. In general, I find that HR is not the best way to approach a company as they tend to be very conservative and only deal with the "normal" and won’t consider anything out of the ordinary. Look for ads (Jobsbank, Mums@work etc) for possible openings in your particular area.

In my case, my first freelance jobs in editing were through recommendations, and my first library contract was through the professional organisation (I’m still a member). My current job was through an ad. It can take monthsv (even years) of looking before you see anything hopeful, so don’t be too stressed over it. Unless you really need the money, just be patient.
