yes...one way trip on the mrt is easily $1+, close to $2. the other day when i took the train from orchard to chinatown, the journey wasn't cheap.

I have made it my lifestyle n feel good when I control n save money.


For groceries, I buy house brands, wait for promo n then stock up on non perishable items. I also buy cheaper substitutes.

With money saved, we occasionally will pamper ourselves to a good meal.

It's so miserable to have to control spending. It's not like I spend few hundreds or thousands every month or even in a year.
Starlight, like you mentioned if cut further might as well go downstairs to eat grass.
If I do go out, I will spoil myself a little...buy one coffee of black coffee and a donut...$3.90, sit in a corner and enjoy. come home feeling happy. Simple pleasures, no need coffee which costs ++.

I no longer monitor grocery prices. Don't care anymore. Cannot do anything about those.


If need to cut cost, have to look elsewhere. Cut down on enrichment. No more piano classes save me $80/week and don't go expensive holidays maybe can save a few $k. Enough for groceries 😉
without a maid, whatever food i buy goes into our tummy. so quality is crucial. but i will still switch to heavenly eventually.

reducing extra english lesson as well as science is not because of cutting costs but to reduce stress on daughter...that should save quite a bit now without wed & thur lessons. we don't go for holidays and meals at restaurants.

maybe Bcoz it is not real sales.

$100 item markup to $200 then give 50% discount. So many of these crap deals going around. Guess shopper are just more savvy and doesn't fall for the tricks. Most real good deals are actually snapped up very quickly.

this one i totally agree. a weekly trip to the supermkt is getting ex. so i only buy what is absolutely necessary. for rice, i will switch to ntuc instead of japanese brand. my kids love to eat the sticky japanese rice.
