I’m not as good as a native but now I have the tools to check my understanding and look up whatever I need on my iphone. through learn Chinese at Hanbridge Mandarin in Shenzhen that I realized if you can’t write it is not possible to use the dictionary. The importance of being able to write by hand is the following. I was quite proud that my reading was getting pretty good. Now that I learn wrote in Chinese instead of a two sentence e mail I got a whole paragraph. There were many characters I didn’t remember which put me in a panic. Now that I have my iphone and can write, I draw the character in my iphone and the dictionary tells me how to pronounce it in Mandarin by giving me the pinyin, a sound bite and also gives me the English. I learned to write a couple thousand characters which I promptly forgot when I’m not using them. I didn’t forget how to draw to copy a character into my iphone. Because I learned to control the drawing I can look up any word in the dictionary. This helps me checking contracts, mail and anything I need to know in Mandarin.</p>
