The author of this book had years of experience dealing with GEP. What I like about this book is that it is by topical approach. This book includes basic level, a recall and knowledge application section of basic concepts, as well as practices for higher difficulty level.


Other books like FannMaths Process skills and books written by Andrew Er which are good for practices of word problems. Parents who wish to teach your kids at home can consider Fan Maths Teach N Learn book.

Onsponge Conquer Problem sums is a good practice book for solving word problems. Some of the practices are more targeted for students of above average/higher ability. Hence, parents need to choose assessment books which are appropriate to their kids' ability as not to demoralise them.

Besides creating my own customised worksheets which are tailored for 1-1 private coaching, I do make use of the above books (not limiting to the above mentioned books) to reinforce the maths concepts which I have taught students during lessons.

What I do with my DD is I use assesment book to train her concept first.
Once her concept is there, I will give her more challenging questions to do.
You have to find out the standard of your DD’s school through her homeworks and tests.
My DD’s school set high standard in Maths.
Their SA papers are more difficult than top school paper.
My DD could score almost 100 marks for top school past year papers but score 89 for her school paper.
Though part of it was due to her being too nervous during exam, but mostly is due to the challenging questions.
Her school SA paper has many challenging questions compare to top school papers.
I will get her to practice questions she made mistakes in her homeworks or test by changing the number in that questions.
