I have a hole in a parquet floor and I would like to make a moveable parquet cover in place, probably a 15cm square. Does anyone know of a place that can do this and the approximate cost? Thank you!

You could have a custom 15 cm parquet cover made by a local carpenter or flooring specialist. I also provide flooring estimating and installation services, and for small projects like this, a careful material and cost assessment ensures it’s done efficiently and within budget.

But feel so relaxed cos nonid to worry about water damage. The price you got was probably list price. If you go down during exhibitions, I understand it can be cheaper. I can’t recall how much exactly I paid for mine, have an idea it was about $6+/- ,def not $8 psf. BTW, for ceramic/marble/parquet etc, there may be a need to hack - vinyl and laminate don’t need to hack. so there’s that positive.

I heard my hubby’s colleague bought his house reno stuff all from taobao…LED lights, taps, even the kitchen sink. That fella knows how to DIY so I guess there wasn’t any issue. Else one may have issues with labour.

There should ideally be no skirting on the floor (my existing skirting had to be removed)
2. The floor should be as flat as possible becos vinyl flooring is very flexible (rubber mah) so you can feel any bumps if floor is not even (eg got a lump of concrete...example nia)
3. Workers used a paper cutter to cut out the vinyl floor planks (laminate need proper machine cutter thingy).
4. Underneath laminate floor will be a layer of 'foam' material, but this piece of 'paper'/'cloth' is not required for vinyl.
5. Workers just piece the laminate planks like jigsaw puzzle, no glue applied. Work commenced really fast. For my place, they had to take out the laminate and then lay the new vinyl - it was done over 2 days (most of the delay was due to need to shift furniture around). If it's new place, I don't think they need more than 1 day (depending on size of unit).

One good thing about vinyl is that for laminate flooring, gaps may appear becos of expand/contract; so far my vinyl flooring still looks very intact. Plus as mentioned, walking on laminate has that hollow sound, walking on vinyl no such sound. Best to go showroom and see.

hquek

Reply to Repairing parquet floor on Mon, 09 Mar 2015 06:28:43 GMT

Saw this at the Evorich website.

Do you think it's just another kind of laminate?

Nebbermind

Reply to Repairing parquet floor on Mon, 09 Mar 2015 06:09:59 GMT

I won’t choose parquet again, scratches r ugly n no guarantee each piece of solid, won’t crack.

Vinyl sounds like a better choice.

Recently changed to vinyl floor - total no regrets. Not very ex (price comparable to laminate) BUT…vinyl floor no scared water (cos it’s made from rubber man), feels like walking on wood (got wood grain feel some more, and don’t have that hollow sound). Vinyl is anti slip (good for homes with elderly) and salesman demo…inflammable (fire on floor also wun impact). And umm, vinyl floor don’t feel dirty (maybe cos of wood grain or maybe my eyesight, I can’t feel the dirt as much as I could with laminate flooring) so I can live happily with cleaning floor every few days. Last time laminate floor smooth smooth…can feel the dust.

We like the no scared water bit best.

For best deals, I hear go furniture shows, they should have good pricing. I went to the showroom directly (fyi I bought mine from Evorich though there are probably many brands available).

The workers had to remove the existing laminate and put the vinyl floor in. Can die moving the furniture around (took 2 days for the job to complete). FYI, for a price, the workers will move your furniture around BUT if you have bookshelves, you will still have to shift these on your own.

Sunlight and moisture will speed up the process so you may get a patchy floor. However installation is very fast, so likely replacement in future is quite easy too.

Parquet lasts much longer, and you can resand it about twice to reveal a new surface, almost like a brand new floor; can last a lifetime if well taken care of. However installation takes more effort and resanding is also a very dusty affair.

Parquet is also getting more and more expensive as the supply of wood dwindles.
