<![CDATA[Rise in Sexually Transmitted Infections for under20 alarming]]>Since 2000, the rise in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among those under age 20 has been \"especially alarming\", in the words of Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan - doubling from 61 cases per 100,000 in that age group, to 133 in 2008


And 7 in 10 cases involved young adults: Among those under age 20, two-thirds were female, while the opposite was true for those over 20.

would you educate
- no sex or
- no casual sex or
- no unprotected sex?

if you have both boys and girls, would what you teach them be different (according to their gender)?
My wife and I take every opportunity to ask our kids what they think of a situation say in the News or a TV show when there is chance to enlighten them on issues of pregnancy, molestation/rape, divorce. Explanation of sex etc follows, eg. what sex is meant for, effects of multiple partners (HIV), sex within marriage...

I still feel that if we can embark on such an indulgent journey to train our kid's mind on academics with right and left brain training, we should make at least an equal effort to teach them how to live in a way to complement their strong academic background. Just my 2cts worth. If with a strong academic background and still need to wear a \"chastity belt\", that will really hurt their ego...

Fully agree with you, ks2me. I think it is very important to instill good values and character building in our children. Still, sometimes it is really easier said than done. Our children are also exposed to media and peer influence and there's societal pressure to contend with. And let's not get started on puberty and raging hormones!!! :stupid: :faint:

It's so tough to be a parent these days, and I guess even tougher for our children. 😐
