Most of the time, I closed 1 eye as I was busy with older one. As long as she follows the schedule, i simply was too busy coaching son in his work. Even then, maids could still have an attitude. I would send the maid packing once 1) she shows me black face 2) has an attitude problem.


The pinoy one was the worst. She couldn’t speak English and we couldn’t communicate. As long as she does her work, I don’t interfere. But I do try to understand her when kids are either sleeping or at school during the afternoon. Yet she accused me of telling neighbors I don’t like her :slapshead:
I called the agency to ask someone to talk to her in her language. The fact that she refused to learn English already pissed me. I returned her to the agency.

Mine just returned to Myanmar. She’s capable but the next employer will have to be prepared for manipulation, lies (a lot), damages (a lot a lot) to household stuff and revenge (when she gets corrected or when she doesn’t get her way). The most ridiculous was she pried open my Iphone and denied (unfortunately, she was caught on cctv).


While she was efficient throughout her term with us, there was quite a fair bit of mind games. It was hellish during the period when she insisted on going back.

[/quote]The way I see it is that the maid is not suitable for you but you are still trying to give her chances after chances because you want to be a good and fair employer. Forget it. MOM isn't going to thank you either. No one thanks an employer for trying to be a good and fair employer least of all the maid and her friends/supporters.

I think only maids who are good and responsible will be able to appreciate what you are doing. But if they are good and responsible, employers don't need to tear their hair out by having to talk to them...

Is this the same maid you have been talking about the past months?

Am I right to say that you have a special need child at home? If yes, looking after the child could be too much for her and that's why she can't perform her other duties well.

Are you afraid of not being able to find another maid to look after your child should you sack this maid?


I think you should look for a new maid. Go to orchard road where there are plenty of maid agencies where you can interview maids working in singapore who are looking for a transfer. Can ask to talk to employers.

Your ex-helper don't seem to be interested in fulfilling her duties of a helper.
Of course she is not interested in fulfilling her duties of a helper. If not, she won't behave in this manner. Girls who want to earn serious money and girls who just wanna have fun will behave very differently cos the motivation behind an action, is the driver of the attitude displayed on the outside. Girls and women also behave differently.

My ex-helper (a) a runaway from home (we discovered later) (b) Sweet sixteen, very pretty (c) just want to have some fun following friends here.

The agents really make it very easy for young girls to just skip over to singapore. Just like that. It's like free for all kind of thing. I ended up having to worry for her and mothering her. Scared she gets into trouble with young men. All kids are like that. no difference from singapore teenager.

All the while, MOM sleeping on this issue. or rather refused to do anything on this issue.

Well, mine wanted to leave after only 3 months. Don't like housework, hates learning to speak English, hates getting up early in the morning at 6.15am as it upsets her sleep patterns, but agent doesn't allow her to leave the singapore until she finished her loan and to pacify her, they dangled a carrot by saying that if she finished her contract, her salary will increase. But she couldn't wait to break her contract so got up to all sorts of nonsense.

They may seem docile and obedient at first but their true colours will show soon enough.
Just pack them off. The 30 days notice didn’t apply in my case. She didn’t give me notice and left me without a maid after only 9 months of working. cannot keep to contractual obligations. In fact, she could not understand what is contractual obligation and why she has to pay her 6 months loan. Before her exit, she filed complaint that I didn’t pay her upon advice from her Myanmarese maid friends. It was not a problem to explain. The problem was that I had to take days off work to handle all the stupid queries from MOM.

Learnt my lesson the hard way. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I managed to get her banned from Singapore to prevent such a person from making another family miserable. She didn’t meet the work permit conditions to come in the first place.
