From a practical point of view, most schools have chinese compo test by term 4 of P2, and it takes at least a year’s training to write well from my observation.

I’ve spoken to a number of Chinese language teachers and some of them shared that many students nowadays do not like to learn Chinese as they find the words too difficult to read/write.

I suggest that you continue to instil the interest of learning Chinese in your son. Let him enjoy more readings in Chinese and at the same time, also work on better handwriting with the correct strokes (Bi Hua). I don’t think it is good to start him on P2 at this stage because he may lose interest when he moves on to P2 and finds the work too easy then.
