I thought NYGH's O level class starts from Sec 3 onwards? Year 4 a bit late to change over, significant portion of syllabus should be covered in Sec 3? Think I read in student handbook that the promotion criteria to Sec 3 (IP) is MSG 4, pass in HCL and LA. Promotion to Sec 3 \"O\" level is 50% overall percentage and pass in HCL and LA.

RGS does not have a "O" level class per se; all the girls need only to take "O" level MT / HMT in Y4.

Academic support, as pointed out by many, is aplenty.

based on what's been shared in this forum, most of the Single track IP schools like RI / RGS, HCI / NYGH, Dunman High, etc do have an \"On-demand\" O level class formed, to help IP students, who need help. Seniors are kind, spend time with them, help them as much as they possibly can. it is good to hear that schools have the intention too, to help these pupils.

If NJC does not have this type of on-standby demand class, as parents, one may hesitate to put a child into NJC IP. Because if a child really can't cope, means got to transfer out

One does not need to have a dedicated \"class\" to provide support for the needed if there is no demand for it. Teachers and seniors can still provide the needed support on an individual basis (since demand is very small).

I think they can re-apply back to the HCI (hearsay is 15 points) or transfer out.

Anyone know?[/quote]HCI has O level class at Year 4. The school has \"Structured IP\" (SIP) program to help those who did not perform well at Sec 2 or Sec 3. Like RI, HCI also provides a lot of support to their weaker students. One of my friend's ds is asked to join some study group after school, and the school also provides remedial lessons. Another of ds's friend, gamed too much in Year 2, attended SIP in Year 3 and it served as a wake up call. He performed well and moved on to normal IP in Year 4, doing well now.

Good to know that many of the IP schools provides acad supports to their weaker students, or else, it would be a rude shock to the students only to realise that they are not coping well in Year 4.

I think it was only implemented in recent years? Can any senior RI parents confirm?

In Year 1 to 4, the O level class follows a different curriculum called RPD (other classes follow RP curriculum). If I am not wrong, those DSA-ed with t-score below 240 goes to this RPD class.

At the end of year 2, RPD students with GPA 2.8 can go to RP class in Year 3. RP students with GPA lower than 2.4 will go to RPD class in Year 3.

Like Edyboy said, I also heard that Year 4 with O levels 15 points or lower can continue to Year 5 in RJC.

I find RI is really trying hard to help their students.

For very weak students, I heard the school arranges sessions nearing exams where strong seniors (year 4 or 5? I am not sure) will be around to help answer questions. The sessions are like university tutorials. Identifed weak students can come and leave anytime from morning to late afternoon. Each subject will have seniors hang around in the class to explain the subjects and answer any questions. Can you imagine there are at least 6 seniors in class ready to answer your questions anytime? Even I envy the level of support given :please: . I really applaud the seniors' selflessness to help the juniors. If I am not wrong, it is called STAMP programme.

Yes you are rite pirated... Its called Stamp programme. The strong seniors eg y4 will be around to help with the tutorial.
The bonding is pretty good as they know pretty well their seniors.. Even during boarding they have tutors roaming ard at nite & the boys will need to attend the classes btw 7.30-9.30pm everyday... No games!
O level track students has a diff syllabus in Y3 & Y4 ,& they can still progress to Y5 with a much bigger points..If not wrong its 15...

That’s great support given at ri. Think there wasn’t o level class during that time for this gep boy I know. It’s a pity. He left ri lost and not knowing what to do with his life. Glad he has picked up the pieces and moved on.

Its true A levels seems so far away… But all IP track schools i suppose have this what they called summartive tests like in ri, every 2/3 weeks & this tests is very important as it play a part in the mid & final yr exam marks.

I believe the Gep student somehow lost interest in the studies or something is affecting his studies eg: family problems…
It can be quite sad tho… As a child they need our moral support & love when the going gets tough…
But strange, as in Y2, the overall GPA will determine whether you are gud enuf to go to the IP track… & some of my DS friends end up in the O level track to be honest…but it is just a handful… Mostly are DSA sports students…
