Extraction costs between S$74 - S$192. Surgery is between S$749 - S$1016 (can claim using MediSave).

A simple extraction doesn't involve stitching and only takes ~20 minutes while a surgery takes ~1 hour. Either way, local https://idental.com.sg/dental-anaesthesia/ will be administered so there's no pain.

Usually only impacted teeth will require surgery. Otherwise, extraction is sufficient from what I know

I had to go for another surgery to close the two accesses when I went to SGH back in 1991. Long time, but no fun 🙂

that must have a nightmare for you...after removing the wisdom tooth, you had to close the gaps.

the 'good' thing about wisdom tooth on upper jaw is not worrying about food stuck....but it can cause another problem like what you faced. i'm very careful now about falling...the infection caused me lots of pain and a huge bill.

I dislike visiting the gynae and the dentist.
had a bad gum infection and that made me visit the dentist...the treatment was really painful but now i'm not afraid of the dentist...just super lazy to do so.

popping Panadol is not a solution. my upper right was giving me problems and discomfort...I had it removed.
the 2nd wisdom tooth was also removed because it was causing food bits to be accumulated and it would cause decay in the long run.

I’ve haemangioma at my left upper palate. As there is no way knowing which part of the brain will the vessels lead to, I’ve declined any op to ambolize them. I’ve to hit to my specific doc if ever I bleed, coz might bleed to death if not blocked in time. As such, I’ve to maintain very high level of oral hygiene, even with a wisdom tooth, I’ve to ensure no debris left btwn the tooth & wisdom tooth. This results in “careful cleaning” but it wears down the gum. Very soon, I might hv exposed roots & sensitive, tingling sensation which will be signal of wisdom tooth movement (doc said if drop off by itself will be less dangerous.

The other thing hv to ensure gurgles readily in my bathroom cabinet so as to gurgle & clear hidden bacteria. Usually after gurgles I’ll hv no pain. Pain cld be due to bacteria infecting at the gums & causing abscess.

I also have a wisdom tooth that just recently erupted and there was a bit of swelling and pain which went away.I can see the wisdom tooth but its slightly slanted at an angle.I think about 15-20 degrees.I wonder if need extract a not?

It depends on how exactly it’s positioned. Mine didn’t hurt at all but apparently was accumulating stuff between them the teeth before them (apparently hard to remove by brushing alone). So was advised to remove them lest all those teeth decay.

For general anaesthesia, the dentist would put you to sleep before doing the extraction.
By the time I woke up, I didn't even know that the operation was already over and the wisdom teeth have already been extracted.
Overall, I would say go for the extraction if you do not wish to face nagging pain in your teeth over the long run.

as usual, had to wait. had stitches and have to back another day to get stitches removed.

the 2nd time i had wisdom tooth removed, i went private dental clinic. it’s either cash or credit card. no medisave. it was definitely no sweat…the dentist extracted it as though it was just an ordinary tooth but with LA of course. no stitches at all. just gargle with mouthwash.

For the surgery part, it was about $670 (full amount claimable from Medisave). For extraction, it was $130+ (not claimable).
X-rays and consultation are separate, and are not claimable.

Tbh, the waiting time is the part I'm concerned with. Given how packed kids' schedules are nowadays, I prefer being more in control of timing. And if we go in to NDC as a private patient, I don't think the cost difference is that big compared with going to a private clinic.

She was experiencing some discomfort back in March. So, we visited a dentist and were told that the bottom 2 teeth were impacted, while one of the top teeth had erupted. We decided to wait till the June hols to get the teeth out.

For the 2 teeth removed last Friday - the bottom tooth had partially erupted, but it was impacted and thus "stuck". The corresponding upper tooth was grinding down on the gums, resulting in some inflammation and pain. The procedure itself was pretty fast. After the anaesthesia wore off, my daughter felt a bit of pain, and took one dose of painkiller. She was on soft diet just for that day. By the second day, everything was back to normal. In fact, my girl was saying that she should have done all 4 teeth at one go, as she felt it wasn’t bad at all.

We went to a private dental clinic, so appointments were pretty swift. Cost-wise, the surgery for the impacted tooth (including all meds like anti-biotics) was fully-claimable from Medisave. The extraction (for the erupted tooth) had to be paid for in cash.

The other 2 wisdom teeth are not giving my girl any problem now. So we’ll probably wait till the year-end school holidays to get them out as well before her A-level year next year. In the meantime, the dentist has reminded my girl to be vigilant in wearing her retainers.

She just turned 18 so can’t get a referral from the School Dental Service but needs one from a polyclinic. Can someone with up-to-date info help with some advice?


- What is the likely timeline if she goes to a polyclinic for a referral (waiting for polyclinic appt, NDC 1st appointment, NDC surgery etc)?
- What is the difference in cost between NDC or hospital subsidised rates and non-subsidised rates?
- What about private clinic rates?

This is her A level year, so she has tests in early July, prelims in early Sep, and the A levels in Nov-Dec. Scheduling is going to be a nightmare! Or we could cross our fingers and wait till after the A levels, but that could be risky? She isn’t in pain now, but the teeth hurt a bit a couple of months ago (which is why we got her the dental appointment this morning), and who knows what will happen over the next 6 mths?
