I rather spent the $ wisely, eg: ballet, things like i cant do it myself.
- even aft you send for enrichment, as a mother u still need to know more ant phonics so might as well i learn and teach myself.

1. May i again ask what is it that you like about Jolly Phonics... so i have a better idea on how to offer the advice?
- wahaha cos is britsh! not so sure i am fine with others but i dont really like letterland leh, dont know why.

2. When you say handbook... is it the guide book or the ones with the black line masters (inclusive of worksheets)?
- huh only got one type leh
http://jollylearning.co.uk/jolly-shop/the-phonics-handbook-in-print-letters/

3. Who taught her the single letter sounds and how were you able to tell that she recognizes them... ie.. letter shapes, letter names, letter sounds?
- the leapfrog and myslef.
- i do play games with her eg: i will take the alphabet and ask her to say the sound within 2 sec.
- i will make the sound then she tells me the alphabet that i am sounding.
- Sometime i will point to the beinning of the word and ask her to make the sound and tell me the alphabet.

4. Which method was used to teach her the single letter sounds?
- well this one i dont really said use what method cos she only know A-Z phonics not the blending sound as 'bl' etc
- i also did jolly with ther for the 1st three groups.

I am trying to find one that really user friendly for homeschool that have lesson plan so i know what to do next and then i also can add on whatever things that i know to reinforced but the most impt is the guide.

i dont really stick to one type of teaching, i prefer mixing them accroding to the child needs and that is why i like home school.

Bud can help me to check it out this material and give me feedback if you can. your help is really much appreciated.
http://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading-level-pre-1/

chuaeil

Reply to LETTERLAND PHONIC vs JOLLY PHONIC on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 18:02:19 GMT

chuaeil:
Can someone advice me pls....

Errrmm.. i can offer some too if you still need advice.

chuaeil:
I decided not to sent my dd for phonics class, i intend to homeschool her.

Gung-ho!

May i ask why not send her for Phonics class?

chuaeil:
I like Jolly Phonics, i have the handbook and the Dvd only. It is in the the handbook, except it is not daily but in weekly.

If that is not what you want, you generate your own curriculum and time table lor. It is difficult to generate a generic curriculum, as it doesn’t fit for all. There is no one size fit all. You know your child and you starts from there. Have a reasonable target.

Once the child finished learning all the phonics sounds in JP, the next step is to do loads of blending exercises. You can either starts with 3 letters-blending first to create confidence. Once your child is okay, proceed with 4 letters blending. Thereafter, you can use the word list as indicated in the JP handbooks.

I like Jolly Phonics, i have the handbook and the Dvd only.
