How did your kids find Paper 2? DS says P2 is weird n questions never seen before. Not sure what he meant.


Glad that 1 subject is over n 4 more (10 papers) to go.
Didn't ask about P2! And she didn't say anything about it. I'll ask her later. She has 11 more papers to go, but 8 of them (including GP) will be over by end of next week. Then 4 more spread over 3 weeks.

Edited to add: My daughter also said that some of the P2 questions were weird in that they didn't ask for paraphrasing. Anyway, it's over now, no point thinking about it! She's just so happy that she's done with GP (her most-hated subject because of the way it's examined) now.

My daughter feels that the questions were more straightforward than last year's. I guess it depends on what areas each student picked to prepare?

The paper this year was a very do-able paper in my opinion. It had three your society questions which is rather unusual. Many students focused on environment as preparation towards this paper. The science question (#12) asked is a reflection of 2015 college prelims science questions. Lastly, many also anticipated the theme of terrorism to be tested. That is reflected in question #4, although other factors could also be discussed, like Arab Spring, Occupy Movement and environmental issues, albeit not as extensive as terrorism.

A fairly broad paper that focuses on the format prior to 2003. There are some questions with topics that are regularly discussed in schools, like Science, Environment, Media, Government & Politics, but the emphasis is on hybrid discussion and evaluation.

Question #3, 5, 6 and 9 are common questions. Their manifestations are not that varied. Any hardworking student who has eye-balled several dozen questions would have come across such questions quite regularly.

Paper 2 was on Sports. A double passage was presented to the students. It makes the AQ component a little more challenging than AQ for single passage. There s been mixed reaction to Paper 2. Some found it challenging while others found it 'ok'. Students are always presented a passage which the examiner feels that students should know about. Hence the AQ discussion should not be too difficult as the examiner feels that this is a subject area that all students should be able to apply, argue and show relevance to society.

Prior to 2015, double passage was tested in 2008 and 2004.

This is not the Cambridge paper, it is SEAB-Cambridge paper. So SEAB has final say vis-a-vis the bell curve.

I like to be on top of things. I get the paper early so as to analyse the paper and make a quick reflection on the prep and lessons organised for the year, as well as the validity of rumours that circulate each year about type of questions that will appear.
