My niece p6 this year. My sister has started her on headstart program with a tuition centre in p5 and she has done well in her p6 to be able to DSA through academic. Thus, I should think a headstart is necessary in our opinion. 😄

I feel PSLE intensive prep classes are rather useful in allowing our children to consolidate all the knowledge from 6 years of education and apply them appropriately in the exams.

From my own experience, to decide whether to send your DC to preparatory class or not, depends mainly on individual child’s learning style. The tutor teaching them must be able to meet their needs. For high achievers, the tutor must be able to stimulate their mind on critical thinking and enrich them with more challenges. Help them to stay in track, cos sometimes they will think too out of the box and start questioning all the impossibles.
For mid achievers, the tutor must stimulate their interest in the subject and tackle on their weaker topics/areas.

I see most children will gear up when they are in P6, maybe due to the pressure given by their teachers and peers. As parents, we should support them and ensure their progress is steady.
When my DDs were in P6, they would tell me if they wanted any external help as they knew what they want.

Although my DD2’s Chinese is the weakest, she decided not to continue her Chinese tuition as she
told me she would learn better on her own by reading the "Ci Yu" book, compo books, etc. I trusted her, although still worried. She got A* for all subjects except CL (an A). However, I am very pleased already as she got a Merit for HCL.

She wanted to continue with her Science tutor as she was able to give more in depth examples into the topics. They developed her sense of inquiry and sharpened her answering skills. I like their PSLE notes which are comprehensive for last minute revision.

My DDs didn’t have Maths tuition as I could assist them on it. However, I still sent them to PSLE boot camp for Maths (in June or Dec) to learn other methods of problem solving. They were indeed helpful as my DDs told me there were shortcuts to some questions (eg. areas of circles, speed) where they didn’t learn in sch.

i am thinking of sending my daugther for chinese Preparatory Class in Nov/ Dec at Hua Cheng, want to know does this type of short class help? some centre offer PSLE camp thing.. does all the help? Is it really necessary as it's not cheap.

They say that it will provide them the tips to PSLE????

i'm not a parent but my psle preparation classes are actually not *that* necessary. i haven't gone through any psle prep classes whatsoever, but i didn't have any difficulties that were too big during psle. however, if you think your daughter is too weak (in terms of class standard/falling behind peers) academically, maybe these classes will benefit her.

Pls share the tuition centre for the headstart.
Which sch did your niece successfully DSA into? Do they prepare them for DSA?
I've already enrolled my DS for some headstart camps in Dec as my colleagues told me that P6 topics will be taught a very fast pace within 5 months. If kids learn some P6 topics during this holi, they should be able to understand faster and do more challenging problems when term starts, right?
I'm a bit kanchiong cos I can't teach him myself.
Tried teaching him when he was in lower pri, but he got more wrong cos I taught him wrong methods, keywords, etc.
