DC has to know about independent variable, changed variable and dependent variable (variable being measured). The experiment may not be about a topic that your DC has learnt in class and your DC has to formulate a hypothesis based on the steps on how to carry out the (fair) experiment.

The performance task actually tests your DC's ability to follow the given steps and whether he/she has been paying attention to the teacher in class.

For fun is because the marks are not taken into account. DS would share his HCL test marks but I have no clue what's his CL marks.

I would think that same day tests a bit overload. Imagine doing 4 hours and more of Chinese papers.... :imdrowning: :faint:

Unfortunately for DD's CT1, both CL and HCL papers are on the same day, that's 4.5 hrs of papers to clear on the same day and I do not think my DD has that kind of stamina/concentration to take both papers at one go, even though I would like her to get used to the CL exam format.
I think when hquek said it's 'for fun', it's probably being done on another day.

Teachers would have told the kids what is included. In P4/5, he would pick up his SS book to read; for the latest CT, he had to refer to external notes and also had to come up with some list. Even then there are usually questions that seem a bit off (outside of the textbooks). But I don't read the textbook, so not entirely sure. Recall some of the questions could be a matter of application. But no worries, so far a bit hard to do badly for SS.

Iirc, Gepers taking hcl didn't hv to take cl papers except during PSLE

DS told me before the cl papers are 'for fun' only (take in normal test mode but the marks are not counted).

The concept here is on family, which is the building blocks of society. If you notice, in T1, it's mainly on concept of family. After that, then they move on to history of S'pore.

My gut feel is that the reduction of 3 classes does not necessarily equate to a decrease of 75 students. I know that for HPPS, in recent years the 2 classes were only slightly more than half filled. Not sure about the other 2 schs.

For all we know, this reduction could be an exercise on 'efficiency'.

Yes, the same for SHPS, the prev year, they had 2 classes with approx 14-15 students in each class. This year they have a total of 26 in one class, so not much of a difference in terms of no. of students.
