I recently browsed the iTunes directory of podcasts for kids-safe content. To my surprise, I found a Sesame-Street video-podcast that are made up of 5-minute episodes. This is a great alternative to those advertisement-laden tv programs on kids-central:

There are more than 150 different podcasts under the kids and family category. Some of these are tailored for parents. Needless to say, these are all free content.
