If so, it is quite easy to mix up a batch yourself - jap mayo, soya sauce, sesame oil, toasted sesame (optional to grind), salt and sugar. Dressing is usually just olive oil, lemon and salt/pepper.  <br /><br /><br />Alternatively, i do Thai sometimes - romaine lettuce, prawns, pomelo (if available), tomatoes, coriander, and add a dressing of olive oil, sugar, chilli padi and lemon. <br /><br />For salads that need carbs - how about a Japanese style one? Cold soba, edamame beans, sesame seeds, carrots, white/red cabbage, green salad veg, tofu,  some lettuce, and some grilled chicken/pork?  Can use soba sauce as the dressing.</p>

I have a mental list now of different veg/protein/carbo/dressing which I can mix and match. I'll try them out slowly and see how the family takes to them!<br /><br />Actually, in the early days of marriage, before we had kids, my husband and I used to eat salads a few times a week. Then, with small kids, and living in China where I didn't want to eat raw veg, we stopped. It's been so long since that I've forgotten what I used to prepare! For substance, as others have suggested, some meat, fish, beans, tofu etc and some carbo. I'll also try to experiments with dressings. We don't really like cheese much and my husband is dairy-intolerant anyway. I usually prefer the clear oil, vinegar and herbs type, and there are some which are fat-free (don't ask me what they substitute for the oil!). Home-made dressings with healthier oil, used sparingly, should be fine even for people who are watching their weight, I think. If we really get into the habit of eating salads more often, I will probably experiment with different dressings.
