So u’ll hear or Mandalay, Irrawaddy, Rakhine, Chin (Kachin, Kallay, Tedium, Mizo) Delta, Shan State, Mauwi, etc. Yangon is their old Capital. The new Capital is in Naypyidaw.


Mynmar is a very fragmented country with many diff ethnic ppl. My ex-helper said most girls fr Chin State are well behaved & hv better idea of hygiene & learn better. She advised me never to get those fr Rakhine, Irrawaddy or Mauwi - not bcoz they’re not good ppl but their culture not exposed to good practices & they’ve no jobs so no idea of how to be hardworking to be competitive. They just accept slow lifestyle.

Mizo (speaks some Myanmarese, English & Indian for those near North East India whilst those nearer China speaks only Mandarin but not English) is really part of Chin State but bcoz of the geographical spread, part of it is very near North East India with Mizoram is a State of India (maybe that’s how Mizo comes abt as part of the ppl fr Mizoram) & hence most wld go over to India for their free education, jobs & therefore most can speak better English then even those kids who grew up in Yangon or Naypyidaw. The Chin goes over freely to India mostly to work in factories producing emergency lights, in mobile repairing shops, or as housemaids.

Mynmar do not hv reliable telecom connections. I’ve experienced problems contacting ppl in Chin State but if they hv the India line, it’s easier to call them via Viber or WhatsApp.

Don’t be confused either if u see their passport showing they’re fr Yangon, bcoz traditionally passports are issued as fr Yangon even tho they’ve moved their capital to Naypyidaw. Don’t ask me why. Just prob they’ll take time to sync their entire system to make sense. But, within their passport, u can identify their place of birth.

If u see Tedium, Mizo, Kachin & Kallay, according to my ex-helper they’re all fr Chin State. For those keen to ustand why Chin State helpers are more available & sort after, do read up their Christian heritage story & ustand their missionary exposure.

Some like girls fr Mizoram coz they speaks basic English for their h’hold instructions, whilst other eyers prefer Mandarin for their elderly.

I’m no expert to comment on Eng level comparable or not to Indo girls’ basic English.

what is the main difference between maids from mynmar and mizoram ? why are there so many mynmar maids and not many mizoram maids? Are their basic english about the same as the new maids from Indonesia?

Mizoram arr either living closer to India or nearer Kallay, Chin State. Pls distinguish both fr this place call Mizoram & not confuse why some Forumers say they good whilst others wonder why others say good Eng but u get this who hv gold holding in their mouth.

My ex-helper used to help orientate me which area hv suitable girls coming over to work in Spore. She said those nearer India wld speak abit more English. Those nearer my mar's Chin State, & Kallay town are more hardworking & christian.

Many years back, I had a Mynmar transfer girl who can ustand Mandarin, taught by her elderly eyer before her demise. But when she came to our h'hold, she hardly talks. DH thinks she's very rude, esp when we hear her speak with laughter & fluent when talking to her frds or family. I told DH to be patient. When I spoke to her when we had pte moments, she was communicative & at ease. She said she's not very confident, so better to keep quiet & not say the wrong thing.

You know how PRC view our kids Mandarin speaking? Guess same ar?

I hired one for my mum for housekeeping before and she’s a graduate according to her profile.
No choice have to hire her even she’s graduate as she the oldest. The rest likes 22 or 23 yo and have a face look like 17 or 18 yo.
Her English is poor, don’t understand even I used the simplest english and speak in slow pace.
But she can clean very well.
Maybe she’s a graduate, she’s quite proud and she would comment if she think what we ask her to do is unreasonable to her. For eg, we ask her to clean the room everyday, then she will comment since no once sleeping in one of the room, no need to clean everyday.
We got her from Maid Specialist.
Decided to terminate her after 1.5 yr because realised she bullying my mum and aunt.

They really don't speak English at all? Saw from a website that English is sorta one of their main languages. The maid agency also told me that they have at least 10 years of education in English. Do you currently have one or had one before? I am also currently considering getting a helper from Mizoram, as an alternative to Myanmar helpers.
