That's not taking account into subject exemptions that higher NITEC students enjoy in poly, and poly students enjoy in university.

6 years will be for N to ITE to Higher NITEC to Poly to University. But if you have to go via this route, I would assume JC would not be suitable / available at all.

20% of poly students making it directly into university is most probably based on http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/record-15000-to-enter-local-varsities-this-year. That said, I would believe that the number of poly grads in university is probably higher. 20% is only for local university. It does not take into account those who can't qualify because our local universities doesn't offer the equivalent course for their diploma, those who decide to join the workforce first and enter university as Matured Students (different qualifying criteria), those who prefer to pursue overseas studies because overseas universities allow a year's exemption for our polytechnic students (which the local university doesn't provide).

floppy

Reply to Negative comment on P6 child from school teacher! on Thu, 04 Feb 2016 06:17:42 GMT

Hmmm, I just think the journey via the ITE/poly/uni route is far too long for many students.
