Cwp portfolio submitted, pending selection outcome
2. Selected for School-based chinese programme. Commitment whole of Sept. Consent given by parents.

Correct?

Cwp outcome aside, your boy already went through selection round for the Chinese programme? Look at your consent form - certain forms dictates that student must commit to programme and refrain from knowingly signing up other activities that clashes with the time commitment. By choosing Cwp (if selected), you may be allowed to withdraw from the Chinese prog commitment provided
1. The school has on hand many other applicants eager to take your son's spot.
2. The school has not started any training in prep for this prog.
Bearing in mind that withdrawing from this programme after consent already given and selection done, may put your son in a bad light which may (or may not) affect his credibility or future opportunities applications. Because supposed to honour commitments mah.

For the Cwp, if the workshop still follows the past 2 years format, there is a workshop in Sept and a follow-up one in Nov. There is no alternative timing/dates (unless this year change) . If selected, the confirmation letter will indicate that In the event that the student is unable to attend the CWP or any one of the sessions, you need to inform the teachers so that GE Branch can review his/her case. Absence without valid reasons (not sure if yours will be valid reason), you won't get the Participation cert. Missing the whole of Sept workshop is missing 50% of what you sign up for (Sept+Nov). Plus during the Sept workshop, the students will be guided to prep an essay of which good ones will be published in their essay compilation book.

So weigh the pros n cons. Good luck!

faithj\" post_id=\"1916892\" time=\"1562050085\" user_id=\"171285:
Hi, would like to know what happens if my child is selected for this program, but it clashes with another school-based activity? Is there another camp he can attend? I remember reading there is one in Nov?
My son submitted his writing portfolio end of term 2, but was also informed shortly after that he is selected for another program which requires his commitment whole of Sept holidays. I did not know the exact details of both programs back then so I left him to decide and just signed on the consent form. Now, it seems the other program (Chinese-based) he will be unable to reject as consent forms were signed way back even before interviews and selection. He is of course more interested in the creative writing camp if he is selected for this.

Reply to Creative Writing Program (English) by MOE on Tue, 02 Jul 2019 06:48:05 GMT

Hi, would like to know what happens if my child is selected for this program, but it clashes with another school-based activity? It would be great though if there are weekly or monthly classes.
