I wanted to service my macbook battery. It is crazy and can drop from 60% to 0 in a few minutes. Person says need to leave there for 3-5 days. No temporary loan of spare laptop service to do work while reparing. I have Apple Care or might have considered a 3rd party already.

I guess I can drop it when I am going on holiday? Haha in the meantime just need it plugged in whenever using...

Don't forget to back up / time machine before you send in for the repair. Battery is glued to the laptop if it's one of the newer models, hence, will need time for them to 'un-glue' it.

Thanks! Yes I did back up first in case... In the end I decided to just do it. My colleague had a spare laptop for me so I borrowed that and went ahead. They only loan out phones (if I heard correctly) when your phone is under repair..

It's not that difficult to fix up your own Macbook. The go-to guide for Mac fans is ifixit.com

However, if your Macbook is one of those recent models (post-2016), it's recommended to go back to the Apple Service Centre (Apple Store, or their authorized service provider) for battery replacement. Most of the newer Macbooks have low repairability score. The battery assembly on the newer laptop is very solidly glued into the case. While outside vendor may be cheaper, if they do a bad job... you are screwed. Furthermore, Apple is using patented terraced battery design in all their latest laptops (from 2016). Beside the difficulties in removing them, 3rd party battery will be kinda iffy.

Sorry, it was in 2016 and I don't have the contact now. We've sold off the Mac already (my daughter decided to switch to Windows as that is better-supported in her university). The original battery lasted about 3+yrs, and the replacement (3rd-party) battery was still working fine 2 years later, which was when we sold it. I've used 3rd-party batteries with Dell and Asus PCs, and most worked OK for at least a couple of years. Only one didn't work well quite soon.

That's what we did in 2016 as getting an original battery was so expensive. It worked out alright for us.

If you want you can PM me for a store that uses original replacement parts. I always feel it is better to have the opinion of the official apple store itself still… to properly diagnose the issue…

I recommend getting from other vendors. I know that means switching to Windows. But I have far better experience using other vendors than apple products.

Batteries aren't covered by warranty, and the warranty just ran out in June!

The safest would be to go back to Apple. If you go elsewhere, it will be difficult to guarantee you get an original, or it may be original but was actually taken out from another Macbook.

You should get a quote from Apple first. Then go to Sim Lim Square to get it fixed.
