However after awhile the medication is the same and loses its effect. If not, they want to go to a stronger medicine that has more side effects (steroid kind). In the end we learnt to eat healthier diets and use natural soaps. Especially for me my skin is triggered after I eat pork. Even those liquid soaps that say they are moisturising agitate my skin... I can only use those with all natural ingredients

Reply to Any recommendation for dermatologist for teen acne? on Tue, 18 Oct 2016 09:24:46 GMT

MyPillow:

just curious, how or where to get NSC appointment ( need referral ? I didn't go that way due to schedule constraints between my girl's available timing and mine. What I did was to call NSC's hotline and requested for walk-in appointment. I explained what the skin condition was about and the nurse assigned the specialist in charge.

iirc, I think the total cost (consultation fee + assortment of creams) came up to less than $120 for the first visit. It was much cheaper for subsequent visits. What I like about going to NSC is that they don't hard sell their creams and products, the doctor just dispense what is necessary. And the creams are so much cheaper too, usually less than $10 per tube

As for the use of antibiotics, I think it depends on the severity of the skin condition. The doctor said that they avoid dispensing antibiotics if possible, and will only do so if absolutely necessary. My girl need not take antibiotics. She only needed to apply the medicated creams. I find the service at NSC professional and fuss free.

schweppes

Reply to Any recommendation for dermatologist for teen acne? on Tue, 18 Oct 2016 06:11:05 GMT

schweppes:

lexis:
Thanks all for the recommendations. I would think that teenage acne is something fairly common and a GP is like to be able to give you something more effective than OTC stuff. It will save time and costs too.

sharonkhoo

Reply to Any recommendation for dermatologist for teen acne? on Tue, 18 Oct 2016 00:20:15 GMT

Thanks all for the recommendations. It worked for dd1. Took about 6 months for the skin to clear.

Had brought her to Dr Ong from Niks Maple Clinic at Tampines. That was about 2-3 years back. Not sure how the situation is like now but back then, the queue was horrendously and ridiculously long. I recalled being at the clinic at about 8+am and only got to see the doctor past 3pm. It was really really ridiculous.

We went back for another visit but I realised that the time and wait was not worth it. Too much waiting and very unproductive. One is only given 5-10 mins consultation time, if take longer, every 5 min is chargeable. My nephew went to Niks Maple and it worked for him. Didn’t see the same positive effect on my girl.

In the end, decided to stop going there. Went to NSC instead and found the service and treatment much better.

Dr Ong is very experienced in dealing with acne problem and her charges are reasonable too. Do check which outlet and the timing she will be available at the different branch.
