My boy likes to learn swimming but he is afraid of cold. Tends to shiver after 15 minutes in pool, eventhough he wears thermal swimsuit. Any public swimming pool that has warmer water or indoor heated pool? Trying to learn swimming but if he cannot stay in water long enough, how? And any recommendation for good swimming instructor or lesson along north east? Many thanks.

Hi would like to reply to this despite being 5 years late haha. May still be useful to other parents, and its a common issue.

Quick reply is make sure he is wearing a full-length neoprene swimsuit that fits well. Additionally, he can wear a double layer and a swimming cap. Try swimming in afternoons, as the sun has had time to warm up the pool. Finally, its totally fine to wait and stop lessons till he is older and has put on more weight.

Read more here: https://friendlyotter.com/helping-a-cold-child-during-swimming-lessons/

Hope that helps!

Reply to All About Kids Swimming on Thu, 03 Sep 2020 03:59:35 GMT

Any daddies/mummies still looking for a swim coach? Need to be flexible bottom n strong flex / kick ( 2 legs close to swim length) must be able to master well before the butterfly can open the wings / arms . V strenuous , even adult get breathless easily .He lost interest at 10 & stop but he still can do dolphin kick well for length , still at caterpillar stage .

Cold pool: last time , I gave child a cup of warm/ hot milo before class.
