Petrol..around 1 week ago,95 grade was $2.17,
I already got a shock,coz been increased from $2.09 to $2.11,then i think to $2.12,
And then hit $2.17within next 1-2weeks..
Then yesterday when i pump petrol,
I was flabbbergasted when i saw increase again,
In around 1 week's time,To $2.20!!
I thought i saw wrongly..rubbed my eyes and my heart sank with disbelief!!
Fm $2.09 to $2.20,i think is within half a yr?
Haiz!! What can we do?! :moneyflies: ? 😢

nothing is getting cheaper.
when we eat out, we can't control the oil and ingredients used...but if we eat at home, i tend to buy better ingredients. i use sunflower cooking oil.

but i reduced costs in other areas like buying Jif from value shop, cut off softener for clothes and eating more bread for breakfast.

I usually buy from source or distributor these days, i.e. cutting down on the middle man like supermarket. Even for household essentials, there are cheaper middle man alternatives compared to FairPrice (and if all else fails, there’s always Malaysia Boleh).

Any impact on your household? Did the hike encourage you to use water even more wisely than before?
Dh changed the tap in the kitchen to a water saving one.
Other than that, we didn't alter our water usage pattern.
Frankly speaking, even if we had not done anything, the increase in water bill will not be significant.
This is probably the case for most households I guess.

The general cost of living is the one that has gone up quite a fair bit.
But I doubt if the measures that people take ( for those who do) to counter such increase in cost of living would have much impact on the water consumption.
I mean if u find the prices of food have increased, u may cut down on meals at restaurants, cook more often at home, look for cheaper alternatives of food etc but u probably won't tell yourself, I have to cut down the usage of water right?

As for businesses, they are profit making entities.
If they are able to pass on the hike in water tariffs to the end consumers, they may not bother much about it.
I am not sure but I do wonder if the hike is effective in reducing water consumption.

instead, prices have been escalating for all the essential stuff…many PMETs still unemployed and reduced to become private hire drivers, large influx of foreigners and lenient sentences meted out to criminals.
