Then my husband went to toilet while I was looking at some toothbrushes. The trolley was just one lane away behind me.

When my husband came back, we couldn’t find our trolley. As we had already put a lot of stuff inside the trolley, the thought of having to walk one more round to reload the stuff made us very "bu gan xin", so we walk around to look for our trolley.

Then we saw a man pushing a trolley that looked like ours. We can recognise it because we have quite unique stuff inside (5 cans of Hosen Longans, two packet of Yummi Rice, 3 packets of Jap seaweed, etc) , although he had put a basket inside the trolley (to disguise it , I suppose ?).

We confirmed it when we saw him taking out the three packets of Japanese seaweads from the trolley to put back into the freezer.

I confronted him. And he got a shock, and mumbled that he was just trying to help to put the frozen stuff back to the freezer so that it would not thaw
(what an excuse ?)

To cut the long story short, we managed to get our trolley back.

My husband and I concluded that he is a professional who made a living out of this.

What do you think ?

I said no, then later I realized that he was doing it to earn extra money.

It could be that a person already had a low paying job, but needed the extra money to buy things for his kids. I do pity that cleaner and I should have let him help me.

My mother told me that it was really tough managing a house hold with little money. She had 2 low paying jobs at the same time, working from 7am to 11pm every day. She used to walk a long distance just to save 10 to 20 cents. Every little bit of money counts. I guess we have to experience real poverty before we can really understand.

I do not pity them. There are so many avenues for help in Singapore, there are many low-paying but stable and proper jobs, if they don’t mind. They’re just lazy and prideful.

How a person with arms and legs can allow themselves to degenerate to such a state, is something i cannot comprehend.
