But after reading a few threads on this forum and I saw what other maids are putting their employers through, I’ve decided to keep her.
So just counseled her for now and will observe if she will improve.
cheeyf2003 - for now I’ve decided to retain her.

Have any employers here transferred their maid and MOM inform you of the date of transfer? I didn’t see this date on the IPA letter and according to the letter, MOM says she can only work for the new employer once the new work permit is issued. It’s not clear when or how she will be receiving the work permit. We are trying to send her over to new employer’s house only when the new work permit is issued / or the date in which it is effective / the date her wp with me is expired…

If she does not find an employer after 2 weeks or however long you give her then you are stil liable for her ticket home.

If she has an accident at agent then you are still liable for medical cost.
If she is under your name and is not cancelled you are legally still responsible for your maid.

Some times ticket home is cheaper…

Buy her a ticket to fly back home. Pay one month additioanl salary in lieu of notice period. .....

Hi Marple,

If your current helper >1 year giving problems, my guess is attitude changed?

My advice is to send her back for following reasons:-

1. You'll not be passing problems to next eyer.

2. They'll get bolder once they feel they're not worried abt finding job coz plenty of eyers to choose from. The maids community shares a lot & discuss strategies to frustrate eyers to get ano new job with higher salary or less work

3. They learn to behave themselves better once sent back as it'll be 'costly' to be sent back & pay agents to return. However, do realize they do not hv to pay ano hefty 7-8 months' salary deduction. Most come back to Spore paying a few hundred dollars.

I encouraged eyers to keep an open relationship with helpers. This will give you some info when helper has changed of behavior, is up to sth or hv personal problems u might be able to advice. Owise, most will seek solace & fall into wrong advices outside.

S'times helpers are led to think Spore families are 'rich' & can afford to loose some items. We shld watch ourselves when we throw away unfinished milk & explain to new helpers bacteria grows & will hurt our health & giveaway or throw old clothings & not leave old phones laying around the house & out of sight. Not all helpers are mature to handle a developed country lifestyle & culture. They're exposed to a lot of city life temptations. I had 3 cake mixer (upgraded over the years but never discard). One of my helper took & had the audacity to comment we Sporeans are rich & can afford to 'give' her. I know she don't like baking & likely to take my things to sell off.

Sending problem helpers home
With problem maids, I usually don't send back to agencies which usually will not reveal to prospective eyers reasons for discharged fr previous household & pass on to unsuspecting eyers the problematic helpers.

I'll ensure young kids are arranged with in-laws or at school. Book air-tickets ahead online at our convenient time, get a companion (usually my hubby will be present) to dispatch maid to home-country. Cancel her WP online immediately so she won't be stack at either immigration. I'll ensure she clears her bladder & tells her we're going out together. Then ensure she takes her wet clothings out of bathroom. Then I tell her to go to sir, \"he will instruct to you\", whilst I guard against bathroom access, to prevent her fr locking herself in. Read in Straits Times a case where police can't do much if maid insists locking herself in & don't exit for hours, etc. Then hubby will get her to pack informing that we are sending her back.

Do not prempt & give her opportunity to pass her things to neighbour's helper or cause unwanted threats fr her, etc. On the way we explain our reason. At airport, we then check her things after checking-in for outbound flight. Take back anything tt belongs to our family & see her to the immigration gate.

For Indo helpers, please do not send over to Batam as it'll be so easy for their return & defeats purpose of learning a lesson to behave themselves & be guai next time. One of my Indo transferred helpers asked to be sent there, after investigators cld not find evidence of her ex-eyer who reported her stealing cash. She came to me fr Batam, tho hometown is far off in Java & with slot of gold necklaces, brackets, ear-rings & pendants. We guessed she converted. I told her I won't send her to Java & she better not come back to steal bcoz the police are watching her. She never came back, but if did, might be with ano name & passport.

Take care!

Estéema

Reply to Transferring My Maid on Wed, 05 Jul 2017 17:13:20 GMT

Hi i am looking for a transfer and keen to find out more. Buy her a ticket to fly back home. Pay one month additioanl salary in lieu of notice period.
Option 2) Send to agent for transfer.

The first option is straight forward and hassle free for me. But she won't have an opportunity to find another job. She seems to be from a back ground where she needs money. So I feel sending her home (even though with 1 month extra salary) may not be fair for her. Your thoughts, please.

I've never used the transfer option before and hence I'm not sure how it works? Need advise on a few questions below:
1) Do I send her to her agency while she waits to find another employer? I'm not sure it is safe to keep her in my house when she knows I'm firing her.
2) Will I still be her employer (and be responsible for her, pay levy, any medical etc etc) till the point she is transferred to another employer? Or is there any way I can transfer her to agency first?
3) How much time is considered to be reasonable to find another employer?
4) Say I give her 2 weeks max to find another employer, what happens at the end of 2 weeks if she does not find another employer? Who has to bare the cost of her air ticket?
5) Leaving her for 2 weeks at the agents place, means I'll have to pay for the boarding/food allowance for each day. Could I bargain to offset it with her salary?

Anyone of you have transfer experience, please share.

She has already been with me for nearing one year, so there is no free replacement option.

Marple

Reply to Transferring My Maid on Tue, 16 May 2017 01:55:44 GMT

hi please contact me if your maid is still available
