Same here. I tend to wake up at the same time anyway. My daughter had a \"late\" day once a week in sec school and J1, but she generally got up at the same time as she said it was too troublesome to change the alarm clock, and her sister was up anyway. She just did other stuff and left later. And yes, she often had to go at the normal time anyway for various meetings or whatever.

The alarm clock.... my gal used her iPad as alarm clock. In iPad, you can store a few timings. She clicks on the timing she wants once to turn it on every night before she sleeps (we didn't set it daily). But even if there is only one timing, you still have to click it once to turn it on anyway. I think you can set various timings to repeat on different days every week automatically, though we didn't do that. So we didn't have the problem of extra effort needed to tune/retune the alarm clock.

I think because I wake up at about the same time every weekday morning anyway, so it doesn't affect my body clock so much. For my kid, I can see that she looks more fresh on late days.

so i will arrange for him to visit the orthodontist on thur mornings before school…the orthodontist only clinic twice a week…thank goodness he has morning clinic on thursdays…same goes for the dentist, which is why it can be inconvenient to go to NUH for dental treatment…next semester, his timetable will change again.

there are 2 recesses (30 min) everyday, except wednesday which is 1 hour and the food would have to last her till 220pm, followed by lunch before CCA begins at 3pm.

NYGH planned a very reasonable schedule for the Sec 3s. If schools want to start later, they should learn from NYGH...best of both worlds is possible.

FTWMs would hope their kids are in schools until it’s time to pick them after work…but i do pity the poor kids who spend literally the whole day in school…especially with many schools in single session. I do kids who are in school from morning until their parents pick them after work…they are in the same compound till evening EVERYDAY. there is no family warmth nor the feeling of home sweet home.

Starting later will only benefit schools that have mostly kids from the neighbourhood.

If most kids travel by transport, the trip can easily double during peak hrs.
And if school drag on to 5ish coz of late start, they will hit another peak hr.
starting school later means ending later too. our kids are already spending so many hours in school.
even though adults start work at 830pm, they still have to wake up by 7am to get ready...so i don't see the benefit of starting school at 815am. when daughter was in primary school, it started at 745am but ended close to 2pm...when she has supplementary lessons, she came home even later.

It would be a good if all schools start same..as kids nowadays are having less and less sleep time and imagine kids coming sch eeryday , having 1 hr travel they need to start home by 6+.When they can hit bed by 11pm only many days.So 8.15 am will give them somemore time of sleep.Yes,logistics might be a problem intially but once we get used of it , it would be not be.Having said,I would also dont want to leave home before sky wakes up brightly.

Just pushing back the timetable wholesale to start at a later timing will not result in the students having more time to zzzzzz.
Something has to be cut, in nygh's case, the recess time was cut and probably something else (that dd didn't miss 🦆 )

Besides, if the students do not put the extra time they 'gained' to good use, it will be back to square one.

That said, I appreciate the efforts that the school has made, noting that the students are the ones starting school later. (not the teachers). Even for those students who take the school bus and did not get to stay longer in bed, they can have more time to chill/revise their work etc) before the lesson starts. 😄

What I can see based on her current timetable is that the timing for dd's CCA has not been affected.
Her CCA still starts at 3.30pm and ends at 5.30 pm officially but they usually stretches a little longer beyond that.
Thanks to DTL2, dd is back by 6.30pm on her CCA days (Tue, Fri).
For Mon/Thurs, her lessons ends at 2.30pm/2.15pm.
(Edited to add: Once a fortnight, she will stay back an additional hour on Even week thursday)
Wednesday is the day when the timetable is less fixed as the last lesson is CCE and they may have extended CCE. (3rd language students are exempted from extended CCE but dd did not take up 3rd language)

School bus might also be an issue as it is now as staggered as I am aware; the school buses fetch the kids first followed by the working crowd.

Maybe can use UberPool or GrabShare? I heard now there is GrabShuttle (bus).
