it's crazy to sign up a contract and be bound to the telco just to buy the phone 'cheaper'.

Even with a sim-only plan, it's possible to go on a Share Plan to share the 3GB data with another number (eg. for child) for addition of $8+ only.

For under $30 (exclude caller ID costs) for 2 lines for 3GB data, it works out rather economical & suffices for most users.

Problem is there are times I can't take a call...like when I'm in a meeting.
Caller ID allows me to know who's calling and I can call back after the meeting.

Also useful when it's my off day and I see that it's my boss calling, I ignore it. :evil:

i also get to enjoy unlimited free calls to 3 M1 numbers.

With a contract plan, basically one is paying for the price of the "discounted" phone over 24 months.


For eg a sim-only plan with no contract for around $21.50 for 3GB is half the price for a similar data-plan for 2 years. Savings over 2 years is substantial!

Even with a sim-only plan, it’s possible to go on a Share Plan to share the 3GB data with another number (eg. for child) for addition of $8+ only.

For under $30 (exclude caller ID costs) for 2 lines for 3GB data, it works out rather economical & suffices for most users.

It is good to have caller ID so that I know who is calling and I have mental preparation before answering...esp if daughter's teacher calls :roll: with spam calls, I will just mute it and then block the number when line is terminated.

I was considering these few options.

Get a new combo 3 plan with the S8 under my company. Use the S8 for myself and my current phone for the company. My personal plan remain.
Upgrade my current plan to combo 3 plan and get the S8. Get a SIM only plan under my company and use with my current phone.

In the end, just bought a SIM only plan for my company as DH said he has a spare iPhone that I can use. It also does not make sense for me to upgrade my plan at all as the new plans are not comparable. I do not have any issues with my current phone anyway. However, a few days later, DH said he realised needs his spare iPhone for his travels :stupid: Returned him his iPhone and bought a Xiaomi.

They knew caller ID is a feature most people want, so they make it chargeable. 😞
The old Singtel classic plan used to come with free caller ID.

hubby took over my singtel line which is 2gb. broadband is M1. kids and i using M1.
caller id is hard to swallow but i can't do without it even with free incoming calls. there have been several times i received spam calls from china and india :mad: my mobile line has many blocked numbers.

Hi, Was in a similar dilemma. Chose SIM only eventually. Neither wanna be restricted by the mobile phone choices which the Telco offers, nor the Telco package.

i chose sim-only plan as i didn't want to be tied down to the telco. telco package now is too ex.
the mobile phone may look cheaper with a plan but the monthly amount to pay doesn't make sense compared to paying for a mobile phone without any plan. this way, i don't have to wait 24 months if i intend to buy a new mobile.

Yesterday I specifically asked and the staff told me point blank nothing.

I’ve been with Singtel for nearly 15 years and never got
any special treatment.

Think must jump ship once in a while since there is number portablity.
Sometimes the telco gives good deal to entice you to jump ship.

We are faithful customers but not rewarded
Initial, the 2 additional lines were offered free with free caller ID. During the next renewal, the 2 lines became chargeable but still with fre caller ID. Then subsequent renewal, no more free caller ID. We are at the mercy of the telco

instead of paying for 3 separate subscriptions.

SIM-only plan is only good for small potato like myself
who is paying full published rate. Those enjoying special
discounts off the monthly subscription will probably not
see enough savings to make them want to switch.
