Say a pack of tissue cost $0.20 while the LV bag cost $1,500 or $2,000 at most, that is 10,000 packs of tissue! :lol: :lol:

yah, I think many of their thrift ways are good to learn from...
and many not to learn from too LOL

I know of quite a few old people (actually some young ppl also?) who waste food by throwing away perfectly edible leftover food. They claim eating leftover/overnight food will cause stomachache??

My own grandma, when she has sore throat, will self-medicate by drinking Qing Chao You instead of seeing a doctor :shock: that's stupid, and penny-wise pound-foolish. I'm surprised she's still alive today, at 92 years old. Must be the Qing Chao You lol

my grandma-in-law wash hands and dishes with water at full blast....exactly the same as her daughter n granddaughter (my wife). I thought water was scarce n expensive in the old days? πŸ˜‰

i tot the rice water is more nutritious for the plants than water and planting own herbs and spices for cooking is so 'ang mo chef\" - u know, just the kind of thing jamie oliver would do?
my mum plant aloe vera, lemon grass (?) and my mil grew chilli from the chilli seeds from the chillli we ate. Save $$ and fresh...but then they like growing plants....

hehe, most of the things u said, my ah-ma was guilty of. but proud of her for setting a good example that it pays to be careful with money. she took care of the entire household, raised seven kids and saved up quite a enough to be able to leave something behind for all her kids and grandchildren!

I have a friend whose hubby will fold toilet paper neatly and put a tidy stack in her handbag.....Once she was searching thru her bag and they all fell out, and we were at a windy outdoor cafe :oops:

Her hubby quite well to do so we dunno to classify this act as kiam siap, or thrifty.
Now when I see printed and patterned toilet roll I will always think of her .....and the flying toilet sheets scene(think John Woo pigeon flying scene)πŸ˜‰

I always have some toilet paper in my bag just in case I've stomachache and end up in a public toilet with no paper. πŸ˜‰ I don't like to use tissue paper cos they're too thin and soft. :rant: I think thifty mean you don't anyhow spent spent. They die die need to achieve "financial independance" (one word i hate lol). They need to have alot of money in the bank account, so much so that without a giant sum inside, they feel very insecure, and that giant sum always seems so far away because they continually revise upwards their target, precisely because after achieving the previous target, they still feel insecure.


I have very little tolerance for such people. This Earth is so rich and bountiful, nobody will starve, everybody will have a good quality of life, as long as we all work hard, work smart, live useful purposeful lives. To build one’s security on money, and be obsessed with the accumulation of it, is shortsighted and foolish.

In my cousin's house you only flush the loo if its big bizness.....
Ewe.....The fact that they have 3 boys and ventlation not too good in their house.....the stench is unforgettable

stench is due to ventilation, poor aiming etc.
when my boys misaimed, those droplets can create a stench within hours despite they flushed the toilet.
when i was living with my parents before i got married, we only flush when doing big business, and doing small biz, we used recycled water (rainwater, washing machine water etc) and there was no stench at all.

Using recycled water is fine but not flushing at all is totally disgusting and lacking in hygiene... arrrgggghhh.. That family is shocking to me..:faint:

We did a viewing of the class and found the teacher reasonable std. Hopefully she is still the same when parents are not around.
