I think the ST reporter should do a better job like let us know what makes him stand out from the rest, his achievements, special talents etc. After reading the article, I could only remember him as \"taxi driver's son\", which is not fair to him.

Another question, why all 5 of them are doing Humanities prog? Nobody in STEM?

I like that this year's president scholarship is awarded to students from different schools.

Why only humanities for Prez Scholarship this year?

1. Maybe the STEM talents have been dominating for years, so they decided to award the Humanities/liberal arts talents? Didn't keep track of the pattern.

2. Maybe due to bad press on SOTA recently?

3. STEM, engg talent not too ideal as future leaders. Technocrats play excellent supporting thinktank role (Minister to DPM) and play second fiddle to people-oriented humanities leaders! hahaha...

4. Maybe smaller pool for panel to pick, i.e. fewer applicants got into top/prestigious STEM colleges in US? Many STEM places taken up by the Chinese and South Asians. Also, lower quota for Singaporeans these days for those coveted institutions like MIT, Harvard, etc.

Actually I am quite impressed with Mr Hundai who attended a SAP primary school and scored an A1 in Chinese as third language! He can speak Malay, Chinese, Hindi, Punjabi and now learning French.


Quite interesting to note that under one scholarship, he can fly between two countries, France & US to do a double degree.

And I remember this Cheri Wee, from Rosyth (head prefect), classmate of Sheldon & Alex Tan. The three of them made headlines back then upon the release of that year's PSLE results.

And I like how he appreciates his mum just sitting next to him while he revised his work. That spirit of gratitude is worth far more than the prestigious scholarship (although the latter is very precious too).
