<![CDATA[Reusable bags - what to do with them?]]>Desker Road should be near Farrer Park, not Farrer Road MRT, I think? Not really in my neck of the woods!


My reusable bag collection, while large, seems to have stopped growing. I guess I shop even less than I used to, and many shops now don’t hand out these bags. But I have a growing collection of large plastic bags, larger than the standard supermarket ones as Fairprice gives me about 6-8 each time I make an order. If there’s any shop closer to the west that needs plastic bags, I’d love to donate them.

Use them as garbage bags?
I also keep a couple in the car at all times, for trash. Then can toss when near a trash can when traveling.
My reusable bags great for boxed or canned food items. One of the reusable bags also nice when going flea marketing. Can keep with all all you small purchases.

My daughters are collecting these bags and upcycling them to create a pillow out of it. It is really a tedious process but my girls are enjoying doing this activity.
but some of them break down after some time even if not being used

Unless they have already been used repeatedly and are at the end of their life (with holes, breaking down etc), it defeats the purpose of their being \"reusable\", doesn't it?

we order gradfood and take the food out of the bags almost immediately, put it aside and either use it as a bag to throw our food remains or keep it. either way, the paper bag would have been clean.
so manybe grabfood can start implementing options where we can choose if we want the paper bags? if no then they can take it back upon delivery as long as there is no spillage or whatsoever. this way they are reusing their reusable bags!

They’re easy to smash into the space and to pull out by the handles, they’re handy when you’re sorting clothes within a bigger storage bin, and they slide easily under the bed when full of junk.

Thereusable bags i get are mostly the woven fiber type which break down after a while or strong cotton type that you can throw into washing machine. Neither are suitable for groceries. The truy good ones are the big ikea bags and these i have used for picnics and swimming until the corners are worn out. Now repositioned as organizers. My other reusable bag is a rayon roll-up bag that i keep with me all the time for lib books and use for carrying beach stuff when on holiday. Also due for replacement soon after 5 hardworking years.


I don't use or keep any other types of reusable bags.
I'm referring to the non-woven bags - the kind you can buy at supermarkets. They do break down after a while, but I get many more than 20 grocery trips (more like 80) out of them before I throw them away. We use smaller ones for library books and for misc. occasions.

for those that order from redmart, honeybee or amazon, do request for no plastics bag. I personally requested for my redmart purchase to come without plastics bags and we check and unload the purchase immediately and return the carton boxes to the delivery guy. But i never bought any wet products from them therefore i'm not sure if they will do the same for meat and vegetables.

I just got a reply from Honestbee that the drivers are supposed to take back the reusable bags, and they will be inspected and cleaned before reuse. I guess some drivers are unaware of this (or lazy!). I also find that the delivery people are impatient - will they wait for you unload your stuff? They always shove the things at me in a hurry and I doubt they will wait for me to unload. I don't think they can help it as they have very tight schedules. I used to keep the bags near my front door and return the bag from the last delivery to the driver when I get a new delivery, until recently when they stopped taking them back. I've asked the customer service people to remind the drivers that they are supposed to!
