Empowerment was defined in the analysis as the process of thrusting against the borderline to shape new fields of practicable action, by enlarging the capacity of those with less power to capture with those with more power.

The fieldwork was undertaken in three countries, Democratic Republic of Congo, India and Nicaragua, implementing governance and gender equality programs through local partner organizations.
