Taken from that macro perspective, then yes, there will be long term demand for accountancy graduates.

It is very hard to climb beyond a manager unless she has wide networks of business owners. Furthermore, most people are drained out within the first 3-5 years. They will move to trading companies or public service which will provide comparable pay with WAY less workload and mental stress.

She must be prepared to frequently work overtime and possibly to sleep in office during the peak audit periods (if she is going the audit route). She should also aim for Chartered Accountant (CA) Singapore which would further add to her stress and working hours for about 2-3 years but extremely useful certification for her future.

meinteel

Reply to Is there a long term demand for accountancy grads? on Sun, 19 Nov 2017 08:38:00 GMT

RoastChickenDance:
Much easier to move from big 4 to civil service than the other way around too.

Just curious, what is the benefit of doing so, given that big 4 offers better career growth?

mummyxoxo

Reply to Is there a long term demand for accountancy grads? on Sun, 19 Nov 2017 01:14:11 GMT

Thanks all for the insights!
