Let them explain to you what they know about "Number Bond".

I used the term "Part Whole" is because this is the fundamental for arithmetic calculation.
Part + Part = Whole
Example,
1 + 1 = 2
1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3
Adam bought a book for $4 and get a change of $3. He has $7 in total.
Ben has $10, and his father gave him another $5. Ben has $15 now.
You may apply this concept in Before After problems.

When I used the word "Part Whole Concept" to explain to them in problem solving, they can be more understanding.
You may check with your pupils, what is the very first modal they learnt in Primary 1 or 2?

It is called "Part Whole Modal".

Thank you for your opinion.
