I used to assist in Occupational Therapy sessions for special needs children and provide tuition services.

I am an advocate for physical-based activities as it:
⁃ improves one’s concentration and memory
⁃ improves one’s health and well-being
⁃ provides greater confidence
⁃ makes tuition not so boring
⁃ improves one’s gross (e.g. throwing ball, cycling) and fine motor skills (e.g. tying shoe lace, opening bottle can, buttoning shirt)

Each session is a flat rate of $35/hr.

Duration (once/ twice weekly and 1hr/ 1.5hrs per session) and content of sessions are customised accordingly, depending on your goal:
⁃ Functional life skills activity (e.g. crossing road, counting money and buying things, folding clothes)
⁃ Indoor fun activity (e.g. games, play dough, mini obstacles at home)
⁃ Pre-writing/ education (eg primary school math/science/chinese)

I always believe a child is able to better focus/ regulate with sufficient physical activities. Same goes for Adult.

Message me for discussion and i can provide more information (eg past experiences and future plans). Let’s work together and help your child achieve greater heights!

*Disclaimer: I do not provide initial assessment/ evaluation, physical activities might cause little abrasion (which can help a child to grow stronger)

The key component to achieving various goals is keeping the sessions and activities fun and “child-directed” if possible. This means I allow the child to pick what we do but I manipulate it into being therapeutic and to work on the goals I have set for the child. This way, it is always motivating, and the child does not realise that they are doing “work.” When working at home, I encourage you to be playful and imaginative with the activities, this will yield the best results.
https://postimg.cc/Yj5YkMP9

https://postimg.cc/ppK8L3NB

gwendolyn2601

Reply to How much $$ do you spend on kid’s tuition per month? on Wed, 02 Sep 2020 09:49:51 GMT

Imp75\" post_id=\"1977854\" time=\"1590481006\" user_id=\"2358:

Zeal mummy\" post_id=\"1977849\" time=\"1590477699\" user_id=\"58173:
Just wondering If any child go with tuition for all 4 subjects and... without any tuition for all of primary school.. how are they doing in Sec Sch now? Why some P6 kids could not solve them? “Return to teacher” after every year’s SA2?
Well said.

I do wish to share that parents shld be discern about the consequences of tuition, too early eg p1, p2, i hope not k1, k2. Wrong method of tuition. This is not to offend tuition teachers or centres.

Last year, my kid's studentcare staff, also a tutor, gave kids in p4 to do the psle triangle question, without parents permission. Some kids managed to use a very simple method to solve. But the tutor just want to get the solution from kids to add to his model answers, not from the point of teaching concept of maths.

This tutor seem to just give kids he is tutoring solutions to problem sums. This is not the right way to learn Maths.

Agree, all boils down to parents be more hands on, try to discuss with the child on the questions.

It is ok to get external help but make sure it is the correct help, not easy. Hence till today, my hubby and I are still holding the fort. Not because my kids are doing great in school, one is not and showing lagging from p4. But it may be more damaging than helping kids, in building their skills in learning, if solutions and templates are provided to them all the time. It is true, very likely they will not score as high as those kids in tuition, because tuition is teaching how to score in exams. We have to bear the consequences of our decision.

I see pri education as a preparation for secondary school which will require a lot more reading, deeper comprehension, long essay writing, more thinking. Psle is just a tool to sort out logistics for the educators to better deploy their resources. But sadly psle results will affect my kids, i realised, due to the environment around them, even if I can tell them otherwise. No choice, a parent got to do what a parent shld to do, but i am still searching how best to help them.

6thisnthat9

Reply to How much $$ do you spend on kid’s tuition per month? on Tue, 03 Mar 2020 16:09:35 GMT

My kids have tuitions for all subjects. Once kids loose track, interest will wane & performance drops.

If the child hv been doing well but lag behind in only specific subj in spite of diligent work shld parents consider professional help and tuition. Once a child start showing learning difficulties signs, don’t wait. Either coach closely to close gaps or find suitable tutors for help. Certainly don’t wait till P5. Yet, I’ve met parents who started panicking only when child started P6, leaving only 8 mths to close gaps which may be traced as far back to P3 which will be ridiculous to expect the tutor or child to try close all gaps within a short span of time.

So, parents pls help yr child as early as possible to smoothen the kinks in learning journey.

Estéema

Reply to How much $$ do you spend on kid’s tuition per month? on Tue, 03 Dec 2019 11:40:07 GMT

I have parents telling me that they will send their kids for tuition in P5. If they are doing good with their subjects, we just need to do follow up at home. Getting a tuition is too much burden and a waste of money if our kids are not benefiting any good out of it.

BranT

Reply to How much $$ do you spend on kid’s tuition per month? on Wed, 23 Oct 2019 08:59:19 GMT

4Fingers\" post_id=\"1942865\" time=\"1571820165\" user_id=\"181626:

Was just curious bc I see a lot of kids having tuition nowadays... Even if only 2 subjects are intrinsically interesting, that's better than none. I think we shouldn't be misled by the complaints that all JC students have to work so hard that they have no time to smell the roses. Many do have time for leisure, dating, hanging out with friends etc, though maybe not as much time as they would like. I think if they plan and use their time well, and are willing to make compromises in what they do and the grades they hope to get, they can fit the roses in here and there.

sharonkhoo
