The \"subject matter of the suspicion\", and the \"duty of bringing up the suspicion\". In this case, the teacher said the wrong thing and what she said was wrong.

If the teacher say \"I suspect you are late for school\" (suspicion supported with basis). In this case, the teacher didn't say wrong thing as it's her duty to query. But what she said could be wrong(late for school). If the teacher ack that the suspicion was wrong, the student should just clarify and be gracious about it and move on. Why harp on it.

If you want to fault her for the choice of words, you might have a case (it wasn't the most elegant delivery). But if you want to fault her for on the act of speaking up, then, IMO, that just so not right..

http://www.theindependent.sg/pap-ministers-were-brow-beating-sylvia-lim-tan-cheng-bock-throws-weight-behind-wp-mp/
“If MPs believe that something is wrong, it’s an MP’s job to pursue the facts and make these allegations in their own name, decide whether something seems to be wrong, and if you think something is wrong, even if you’re not fully sure, then come to this House, confront the Government, ask for explanations and answers.”

“PM Lee was echoing the view of our former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew who said “All MPs new and old, should speak out. You have to speak up and bring out the grapevine criticism in the coffee shops and hawker centres. It is damaging for the government not to openly refute it with facts and argument. GOOD.

So, it wld be very clear SL/WP suspicious intent to kick dusts of suspicions & yet some public can let her off so easy on such level of devious words & after found out will not apologize? There’s deep reasons for that request for apologies if one were to use Parliamentary privilege for defaming when there is NO BASIS & yr response made it clearer tt SL (with her legal bkgrd) made her unsupported accusations with knowledge. What she didn’t expect was to be taken to task for the abuse of privilege & stoking political fire to score points under veil of ‘speaking out’ for ppl as elected MP. What she didn’t expect was not every individual let a wolf off for ano day to cry foul again.

I think it’s OK, if ppl let her off easy. It’s on records she didn’t apologize & if Opp/WP raise this issue again in next GE, u’ll see the impact of loosing good leaders. I feel terribly sad we’ve become the over-indulgent parent, letting a strong-willed child say "ya, I know u’re right now & I mistakenly said sth that was not right", … "BUT I’ll NOT apologize"… "I’ll not retract what I’ve said" …

I think I almost hear her say "what can you do to me? Ha, ha!!" I’ve got some ppl I can hide behind telling me not to apologize & I won’t even if I’m wrong." "There, so what if u’re right?".

We’re all getting soft.
