And how would you do that? Do you know that when you are deleting stuff off a harddisk you are merely removing the FAT table? The only way to securely delete things from a harddisk is to write ZEROS to the harddisk.
I remove and keep the harddisks off of computers I'm disposing. Keep the disks as a backup.

Singpost partner with Singtel to provide this free service. put the phone in envelop and drop it at any mailbox. I do that for my old powerbanks as well.

Secondly, they don’t know who the device came from so unless you give them a phone or computer without even doing a factory reset, nobody is going to bother trying to dig through.

I've seen him dismantling the laptop and removing what he says is the hard disk before disposing it.
The hard disk of the laptop (looks like a \"cd\" to me :oops: ) - it shatters when he hammers it.

Not sure about phones. They are still lying around in our home as they don't occupy much space...Double up as spare phones/alarm/radio when needed.
Yes the disc is what contains all the data, once that is destroyed it's unlikely that people can access whatever was on your device. For mobile devices, usually a factory reset will do.
