Just an update:
We have managed to find very good secondary school math tutor, and my child graduated with A1 for both Emath and Amath last year. Now my other kid who is in primary school is also receiving tuition from her.

I managed to get a few recommendations from different parents via direct message etc. After trying out a few then we selected this tutor as she’s very patient, good at explaining and good at building basics. We are very grateful for this platform to offer us recommendations of tutors, and it really saved my child’s olevel. Hope this recommendation will assist fellow mummies and daddies. If you want the other math tutor contacts I received, you may contact me and I will share privately. As I understand what doesn’t work for my kids, may work for other kids.

Hi student here! Secondary 3 and I scored a bad F9 for amath and I really want to do well but I've come to a point that I hate amath or studying in general I also have a hard time concentrating. I'm looking for either small group tuition or 1 to 1(preferably female, sorry), but I don't really want a tuition that teaches each topic like a normal lesson but more application? Like instead of formulas of Logarithms I wanna know, how does log work, how to use. (like why have a tuition that teaches that way when schools already teach in a lesson format)

To put it into an analogy I don't want a tuition that teaches me how to swim but how to not drown
Please help cause all tuition centres promise the same things and I can't find a tuition that I like :?:

Hi Aoihelp,
It is really commendable that you have a positive viewpoint on learning not for examination sake.
Usually I only get 1 student every year in my school like you... haha...

My suggestion however to you is, get the basics right first , improve on your grades... if you are really keen about how mathematics works etc.. you can always google ... eg Logarithm... it is just a way of representing large or small data.. is it is as simple as that... it is just a scaling approach... it is used widely.. read more about earthquakes - richter scale... look at pH formula.. etc..

perhaps.. you just need a teacher to inspire you to let you understand how the things that you learn can be applied to real life... nowadays.. teachers are conscious of this aspect and do share when starting a topic. If you school teacher does not do it, just ask the teacher.. what are the practical applications...

Oops, sorry for missing out your reply. I always contact Ms Chen at 84577888.

My DD was with Ms Chen for upper sec maths tuition when Ms Chen was still at RGS. My DD likes her coaching and improved significantly.

After that for JC tuition, Ms Chen advised swap to Mr Lau's class. Different style, but still good. Trustworthy, as he is former HCI math HOD.

I am looking for tutor that can coach A/E Math for Year 3 IP VS student? I understand that the syllabus is different for different IP school. Hopefully, there are any tutor has a small group and my DS can join in. Preferably 2 to 3 students. Tutor must stay at the East and DS prefer weekend.

If you are OK with small group tuition you can try out with Mr Lau Hock Soon or Ms Chen (tutorchen). Mr Lau is former HCI Math HOD and Ms Chen is former RGS math teacher.
