If the company culture is to be serious and diligent, the engineers will do it well. If the people relax then there is a higher chance of something going wrong. Still, budget careers fly far shorter distances and the likelihood of the equipment encountering a problem might be less? This is what I think maybe pilots and crew can help verify

It depends on what you are asking / talking about.

Prior to departure, the engineer / pilot will go through a serious of checks and visual inspection to ensure that the plane is airworthy. However, the engineer / pilot are not always in agreement. Sometimes, the engineer will deem an airplane as airworthy (i.e. within manufacturer's tolerance limits) but the pilot may feel that it is unsafe or not suitable for the flight. In such an instance, the captain has the final authority to refuse / accept the airplane (and his / her decision is pretty much final). Pilots don't have a culture of being relax about such things as his / her life is at stake as well.

All operators are also subjected to periodic checks mandated by their country's regulatory authority (taking into consideration manufacturer's recommendation). Possible punishments for not meeting theese requirements include suspension / revocation of their licence, grounding the fleet, etc. The specific maintenance programme is regulated based on time (months / years), flight hours and cycles (a takeoff and landing is considered one cycle). As all Singapore-based operators are subjected to the same stringent and strict checks, I don't think one Singapore-based airline is necessary stricter than another (p/s: same can't be said of other country).

Reply to Scoot false bomb threat on Tue, 10 Apr 2018 05:29:06 GMT

janet88:
I know it sounds silly to say this...but I am afraid to fly. this is partially one main reason why I don't have a travel bug.

travelling in a car, it can stop but it is on land...but after 9/11, MH17 and if a crazy nut creates havoc, my phobia is even higher.
being confined in a small area with nowhere to run, it's really frightening.

You can't run definitely but you can potentially fly....

limlim

Reply to Scoot false bomb threat on Mon, 09 Apr 2018 10:15:37 GMT

floppy:

lee_yl:

If possible, I would prefer to fly by SIA.

Couldn’t recall who told me, I think was my Uni lecturer who shared that budget airplanes would buy used engine parts from SIA.

Anyway, hubby said it is highly unlikely that a terrorist could pass through all the stringent checks from our Singapore airport and bring a bomb up the plane. The door locking system means that the door cannot be entered unless the pilot inside allows someone to enter. There is a camera that allows the pilot to see who’s outside the door. You can access the cockpit by unlocking with the numerical code. However, the pilot in the cockpit can deny entry even if someone enters the correct code. Lastly, the door is strong enough to withstand a blast (although the rest of the aircraft will likely disintegrate first).

floppy
