A few quick things to understand:

MTR HK operates a lot more lines within and without HK island.
MTR HK won a lot of overseas rail contracts, including motherland China, Australia and London.
MTR HK is a listed coy.
MTR HK staff gets housing / board allowance, amongst other perks.

Ex-CEO Jay Walder, an FT hired from NY, was kind of overpaid. Golden handshake to get rid of him was HK$15.7mil.

With regard to the departing MTR executives, the chief executive stressed that she will not allow the railway operator to offer gratuities to the managers. In terms of bonus or gratuity depending on individual’s work performance, the board of directors would make a decision.
Lam suggested that MTR’s past practices, which saw the firm offer so-called golden handshakes to departing top executives, should be done away with.
She was referring to case in 2014 when then-MTR chief executive Jay Walder received salary for the remaining term and contract gratuities for agreeing to step down one year ahead of his contract after he was blamed for delays in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link project.


Compare with SMRT which is a small-time player. Already lost a few overseas contracts I heard.

Got typo boh? S$80K or S$8k, or Hk$80K (equivalent to S$14K+)? As project manager even with PMP certification, to earn S$80K / month (equivalent to HK$450K+) is really unbelievable. :imcool:

If KBW really do stepped down, who in cabinet now and who is senior and experienced enough to be able to fill his role? Sometimes I think to myself, while it's quick foe anyone of us to criticise leaders for mishaps, putting myself in their shoes would I have done better? While most would say they were been paid to deliver; but for them therefore to deliver, I think the tasks on hand just really need time to resolve and for infrastructure to be built and further enhanced for resilience. Just like the 2000's HDB crunch left behind by May Bo Tan, KWB took over a thankless job thereafter and see what he done?.

DS3 shown me this video last night and we had a 2 hour talk on politics etc. He lamented that his peers don't seem to be interested or aware of what's going on around them; most with a live and let's live attitude. :censored:

don't need to duck...I have the same feeling.
after LKY, no one else can replace him...the current 4G ministers are just inexperienced to take on the giants in the world.

Stop blaming Saw. She was appointed by the board of directors to monetize the retail properties in MRT stations. She did exactly that. Blame the board of directors.
