Unless you are handling a website, I guess it's not something you need to know. Many people just learn bits and pieces in a monkey-see-monkey-do fashion when they take over an established website, but I prefer to get some background and overview as well. Especially as we hope to get someone else to help out eventually and I will have to be the one supervising.
