I am a born and bred Singaporean. My grandfather was here long before Singapore's independence, when it was still a British colony. We survived World War 2 and the Japanese invasion of Singapore. We thought that things would get better for us after independence. However, this is not the case when the PAP is treating the country like their business empire instead of a country.

I am not a hardcore PAP hater. If they were doing things right and people were happy, I would have no reason to hate them. I don't hate them for the sake of finding someone to hate or to vent my frustrations on. In the past 14 years, I feel that they have lost the mandate and will to lead us properly. I have observed silently from a distance. I did not want to be too quick to jump to conclusions or to judge them prematurely. However, enough time has passed and they have shown that they are not up to the mark.

Granted, it is not easy to manage Singapore. Despite it being a small country that is much smaller than Malaysia and Indonesia, it has still survived. But we are not just looking at survival here. We don't just want to survive. We want to thrive. Would you be happy with your life if all the money you earned was just enough to buy you food and water? There is a lot more to life than surviving. Unfortunately, the PAP has created an environment whereby Singaporeans are struggling to make ends meet.

I don't want to rub salt into PAP's wound. Unfortunately, if they keep suffering setback after setback, maybe they are just not cut out for the job. They reward themselves with high salaries despite not performing well. This is unacceptable. You do not receive the prize before winning the competition. You cannot put the bull cart in front of the horse. There is a proper way to do things.

So, if Tharman takes over the baton, and if the train issues continues, continue to welcome foreign talents to prop our population, or steer the country to avoid attacks with similar unpopular but critical decision, wld ppl be happy? Btw, Tharman, HSK & NCM are some of my favourite men in black. Each hv their strength & weaknesses. We need them to work as a cohesive team.

if PM is prepared to step down and pass the baton, Tharman is THE man most appropriate to take over. 60+ for a guy is not old. HSK...quite concerned with his health after a major stroke as finance minister. can't think of another candidate.

The Malay guy who is making up the numbers is a former Mayor (redundant position IMHO) as well as a Senior Minister of State for the MFA prior to the election. Strange that no one wants to take a position that losing a Senior MOS (number 2) is political tragedy. Also, for those who are concern, our MFA didn’t collapse despite losing the number 1 and 2 on the same day (who’s the bright f#%* that puts all the eggs in one basket in the first place). It's true - we actually can afford to lose ruling politicians, since it is (the non-partisan) civil servants who formulate and implement polices, while the politicians, using HSK's words, \"put effort in winning and keeping the people’s trust so it can work with integrity\".

Ha, ha. I’m curious why some cannot look beyond the act of P election. The region is threatening terrorism & I guess I shld hv painted everything clearly in discussion. Why I assume ppl can think beyond? Me bad. Haiz! I’m glad Spore is putting strategy to put a figurehead. I shudder to think a weak govt kept suppressing multi-racial representation causes even more discent. That’s easy to push the weak to respond to radicalism. I honestly shudder to think our small red dot will end up like Malawi.

If ppl look at history as passé & do not learn fr it, I think the future generation is gone. Whilst our economy move fwd, our software MUST NOT become hardened with smugness & young generation pandering only for good & better life, complaining of others effort in steering the country forward.

Really the issue is deeper than just reserves & meritocratic election.

Hmmm, if ppl had put in so much appreciation as an after-thot to what LKY & forefathers had done, then maybe current & future leaders shld reverse P election & ramp in as govt selected P. I believe that was what some older guards used to gripe LKY’s hard rule (he was looking beyond what the man in street can sense) and ramp in with those whom he found to hv communist ideologies or narrow-defines on Spore’s coffers.

Current govt chose soft mgt of the country to meet with younger electoral pop, which was alr a far cry fr the old guards, but they cannot compromise national interests in place. Just wondering, in today’s context, wld we prefer the hard rule or the soft but invisible hand when occasion calls for it. Btw, I’m not saying that’s what the govt is doing. Just wondering what will appease those who seemed to gripe our current leaders, or wld they prefer the hard rule all over again & be led with no voice? Or will changes ever appease anyone?

The issue is deeer than reserves. At the point in time, we do need a figure head to signal & uphold the racial harmony our forefathers hv so painstakingly built up. I don't mind national reserves save for rainy days. Not like we are all scrapping fr bottom of rice bins right?

This hit me whilst thinking abt M'sia bumiputra privileges & all the corruption arising fr undeserved privileges. Our ppl & our govt worked hard.

When we had the Asian downturn & ppl lost their jobs, I know of many (personal frds) who made sacrifices to enable families w/o jobs to earn a living. I don't see our ppl putting up mats in public walkways or living in manholes like this in HK or communist states tt didn't take care of them.

We're just kiasu Sporeans worrying abt our children affording housing. I've not seen medical support that provides for Pioneer generations & govt regularly alerting the nation of national health issues & avenues to keep fit & stay healthy. I've only heard of Bill Gates pouring origin of his wealth for education but not a govt providing for SkillsFuture & re-training & actively match jobs after suitable retraining, opening up more healthcare related jobs where the ppl need them most as they age. I've only heard of some private aging homes where the elderly hv to pay heftily & get fleeced. We lived up to our Kiasu reputation yah? The ministers and leadership of the past is history, we r worried about the future. DH said he'll spend all his hard-earned on his hobbies, retirement & holidays. Next moment, he bought ever PA & Medical insurance for kids & PIL. At one time, was even asking agent if there's a way he can pay upfront all premiums to relieve them of financial burden if they can't afford or chose to rescind. :siao: I call it 溺爱 & told him for elderly is 应该的, but if he do everything for kids then how they grow muscle of self-motivation & self-reliance?

It is inevitable. Every generation has its challenges but they will overcome it, as with all generations before them.

As is, personally feel that the younger generation is starting out on stronger, firmer ground. Know of many of them working in London, New York, Dubai, Sydney, Melbourne, etc.

although PE is over, i find it hard to accept H as the president because we didn’t get a chance to vote…and i guess her boss knows her chance of being elected as a president is very low if he had allowed singaporeans to vote.

Tragedy depends on which side of the fence you sit on. Notwithstanding, PAP has a deep bench and the impact of GY retirement from politics is greatly overblown. It's funny that people only remember GY, considering that there were another Min and a Senior MOS on that team as well.

Also, the nutty one would likely retire in the next round. Regardless of the result - tragedy or otherwise, you probably won't have to put up with expensive nut talk for much longer.

Sorry... I got triggered. Stay Aljunied chup lau but vote under MacPherson SMC & Marine Parade GRC for past 2 elections. My MP could have been Nicole Seah but ended up with TPL. So a lot of grievances to let out due to the gerrymandering. Haha. :rotflmao:
