<![CDATA[A pie in the sky for int'l students to be enrolled?]]>Iโ€™m just wondering if anybody out here can help me to make a decision.


We have been searching for a local primary school for our children in the past six months. I have called up many schools across Singapore and submitted waiting list application forms, but as of today, we have no success. I understand that their admission is subject to the availability of vacancies, provided there are no SC/SPR children on the schoolsโ€™ waiting lists. The schools that I contacted were mainly those which have low take up rate for Pr 1 Registration โ€“ I thought that it indicates how full a school is.

Is it almost impossible for internationals to get in a local school except for by Pr1 Registration scheme? Are we wasting energy and time, so should move on? I am desperate and terribly confused.

As for an education fair, they seem to promote only secondary schools and colleges.

Wow, I checked the expats' forum for the first time and found out that some expats' kids go to a local school!! That's encouraging! I contacted those schools that mentioned in the forum, but no luck... Some schools have already exceeded a quota for foreign students.

We are still trying, so please feed us any info you have!!

Another school you may want to contact is the Pei Tong Primary School in Clementi. They have quite an international composition, including kids from Aus, US, Canada, UK, Germany, Mexico etc. Call and ask to see the vice-principal (the Principal is new and usually very busy so it's the VP who deals with and even tours the parents). She is very welcoming.


There are great threads from expats' perspective on local schools at the singaporeexpats forum (http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/forum47.html). Have you checked those out? Indeed there are many expats who go through the local school route.

Sometimes itโ€™s a form up of the private schools here, sometimes itโ€™s linked up with govt schools.


Not too sure on this cos my dad was in a rush and only managed to give me a small bit of information.

You can try searching online to see if thereโ€™s any such fairs or any agent where you are located now to help you secure a place.

Thanks for the insight into. Now it makes sense! The school might have some reserve for those agents.

How does a company help with the enrolment?? Do they make a good donation?

This varies depending on your child. There are thousands of assessment books out there, so you might wana find some time to research on the books or dig through the threads in this forum. Definitely need to get this \"Problem Solving Processes in Mathematics\" to handle the increase in problem sums aspect of p5 maths.

Ahh...I only got a \"Problem solving made easy P4\"!
How about Section C in \"4-in-1 Challenging Maths P5\"?
I have it and wonder if it's a same line.

I requested MOE the list of schools twice in the past. Unfortunately, I havenโ€™t had success each one of them. Our children haven't gotten that far to sit for an entrance exam!

You have coached students โ€“ that means, there are some internationals who got in local school! Thatโ€™s very encouraging! Do you happen to know HOW they got in??
There are MANY who got into local schools and they got their PR usually by Secondary School.

You could try contacting some of these agents. They know how to get a place in a local school and all you need to do is pay.

Not being a wet blanket here, but usually there is already a long waiting list for these schools. The locals are already finding it difficult to get a transfer into these schools, what more about foreigners?

I've just received a reply from one of the schools that I submitted waitlist application forms last year.

One child is still on waitlist, but they have space for the other one.

The biggest mistake I ever made was not applying for AEIS last year. The MOE officer told me that the placement was not guaranteed even if they pass the exam and our children were not necessary placed in the same school, it's all depend on vacancies. That put me off, but little did I know back then the difficulty I would face later. Now my older child is P5 and as a rule, she won't be accepted next year as P6... We don't have time!

Heard that itโ€™s quite an โ€˜international schoolโ€™ with all sorts of nationalities in there. Good luck.


Another โ€˜international schoolโ€™ that I know of is YangZheng Primary, but between YangZheng and Tanjong Katong Primary, YZ is a more popular school, so there might be a waiting list already.

International Student Admissions
Starting from admissions into academic year 2009 onwards, MOE will be conducting a centralised admissions exercise around Sep-Oct of each year for new international students who wish to join our mainstream public primary schools in January of the following year. This new exercise โ€“ the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) โ€“ will involve a centralised test on English and Mathematics. Interested applicants are advised to refer to the MOE website for more details.
